You can eat what you want, there is nothing written in stone about vegetarianism. Its not a mortal sin to eat seafood. Its healthy for you, and thats what matters in the long run, what you can live with and being healthy...

Your diet is your choice, not a religion. If you want to eat seafood, then do it. You can't really use the label of 'vegetarian' to describe yourself, though. How important is that label to you?

No. Vegetarians don't eat animal flesh. Besides, though seafood has some health benefits, it's loaded with cholesterol.

It depends if you think it's OK not me. I'm not even a vegetarian LOL but I was for many years ... re-considering it as I always felt "detoxed" and clean. Even if I had alcohol I wouldn't be hungover. It was cool. Maybe it was because I was younger hehe or maybe the vitamins in veggies and fruits.

Their are different types of vegetarians. The ones that eat fish are called pesectarian (i think). I have a soft spot for fish too, but finally gave it up this year!!!! You woud still be a vegetarian though!

~ I hope this helps!!!

Vegetarians in Europe often eat fish. This has to do with historic and cultural reasons--fish was not seen as being meat. Hence Catholics who gave up meat for Lent would often eat fish. Romance language texts from the medieval period also hold this distinction.

Call yourself what you want. In America, some people will call you a pescatarian. One day, you may choose to stop eating fish or you may start eating meat. Who knows. It's probably not the biggest issue in your life, you know?

the proper term is PESCA-VEGETARIAN
Its one of the many different forms

If you are a vegetarian and committed as you say then you are not supposed to eat meat regardless of the kind of meat you are eating . that includes fish , crab and shrimps . but if you eat sea food as your permanent choice and vegetables it's ok . it just doesn't make you a vegetarian . by the way this kind of diet is very healthy if you don't have allergy to sea food .

Seriously people, if we are not supposed to eat animals then why are they made out of meat? They are delicious!! I'm sorry to answer a question with a question but I can't think of one reason why you should not eat any kind of meat. Especially one as wonderful as raw seafood.

Vegetarians do not eat animals and those are both types of animals.

You've never met a vegetarian that eats seafood as they don't exist.

I must commend you on giving up all other flesh.
Chickens, especially, are the most abused animals on the planet.

No, veg(etari)ans don't eat meat, regardless of whether it's from a land animal or a sea animal.
I guess it's ok if you're on the road to veg(etar)anism and planning to give up seafood one day though. However, if you're that desperate for a label, call yourself a pescavore or flexivore not a vegetarian.

FISH DON'T GROW ON TREES.

There is vegan sushi out there made from avocado, cucumber, seaweed (not nori, the other kind), tofu, etc. Most sushibars have them. :-)

As for health, fish (especially salmon) is often contaminated with mercury and other heavy metals because we're overfishing the world's waters and also polluting them at the same time. There are other ways to get your omega-3 like flax seeds.

My wife is Hindu. Her spiritual leader came to America. He went into a grocery store and bought all the live lobsters and set them free. That's a real vegetarian. How can someone who would eat them claim to be vegetarian? It just doesn't make any sense to me.

Eat whatever you please. But why is it so important to call yourself vegetarian when you clearly aren't?

I don't know where you get your sushi - but where I get mine - I order it with no meat of any kind and they make it for me on the spot right before my eyes.

So you CAN eat sushi - if you know what your ordering.

If you eat seafood you are not a vegetarian.

This is for Banjo & Sullivan...it's a good reason not to eat meat.

That is correct, STRICT vegetarians do not eat any flesh whatsoever. However, millions, upon millions of vegetarians worldwide eat fish, seafood or poultry or a combination of all of them.

The Japanese are a vegetarian culture that eat fish/seafood. And of course they love sushi, don't they?

They have the healthiest diet and live the longest. I am a flexitarian vegetarian and eat fish and seafood. On RARE occasions I may have poultry, but usually it is fish and seafood. And I just love sushi--tobiko being my favorite.

So you are more than a beginner. You ARE a vegetarian/flexitarian vegetarian. Milliions of Japanese, Chinese, Okinawans, Philipinos, cannot be wrong, no? You will get a lot of heat from the "strict" vegetarians, but who cares about them. Majority rules.

I stopped eating meat 10 years ago, but still sometimes eat fish and seafood.
Sometimes I say "I am vegetarian, but eat fish.", sometimes I say "I do not eat meat."
I have met many people who say they are vegetarian, but still eat fish and seafood.
In Asia, there are even "vegetarians" who eat chicken. They state that chicken have only 2 legs, so it is ok to eat it. Please do not ask me about the logic...!?!

Anyway, it is alone your choice to decide what to eat. You don't need to defend yourself or whatever.

I think your decision to stop eating meat is a great step to improve health. All the best to you!

you're a pescatarian. but often you might find you have to tell people what a pescatarian is. just say its like a vegetarian but you can eat fish but not pork, chicken, beef, etc. you must be very clear as it confuses people.

and you can eat what ever you want, we all have to try to do what we think is right & giving up most animal flesh is better than not giving up any. dont let anyone discourage you, be they vegans or carnivors. and you will learn quickly not to argue with people about what you eat as its a personal choice and no one but you lives in your body. but also give the same respect to others as well.

Vegetarians do not eat fish.

check my profile. If you want to go against that body of opinion then good luck to you, but you'll find life a real up-hill struggle

It's fine, you can eat whatever you want. But you won't be able to truly call yourself a vegetarian if you eat crab and shrimp, because vegetarians don't eat any animal products at all. If the title isn't all that important to you, go ahead, eat what you like!

Oh my god... people like you really irritate me.

VEGETARIANS DO NOT EAT SEAFOOD! And this includes sushi, shrimp and crab.

Are you in elementary school by any chance?...
It's animal, and flesh.

You're not vegetarian.

And the people that call themsevles vegetarian and eat seafood are posers.

People like you make us look bad..

Vegetables=Vegetarian
