Daijoubu desu yo. My daughter goes to Waseda Univ. in Tokyo and is a vegetarian as well. Here in the U.S. she goes to Whole Foods and Trader Joe's for organic foods. Those are good places. Local grocery store chains like Jewel do not carry organic goods for the most part but higher end or upscale ones do. Again, Whole Foods is your best choice.

Your English is very good. Omedetou.

American's shop at Wal-mart Supercenter, they have EVERYTHING. You can't miss it, it's probably the biggest store you will ever find!

I'm sorry you don't like meat I would die without steak.

Trader Joe's , yes nice store for whole foods. Not sure what city you live in, but to find Asian markets you need to go to a big city, they have more of a selection.

Whole Foods and Trader Joe's will both be good for you. During the summer you should be able to get all the vegetables you could want. Learn how to 'put them up' meaning seal them in jars that you can save to eat through the winter.

If you can get to a Whole Foods though they will have everything you want.

No need to apologize for your English, you are doing a great job and much better than we would do in Japanese! Best of luck!

Costco is your best bet

Ask someone if they now of any good health food stores there. Like Akins.

Also! At Wal-Mart, they have wonderful imitation meat. It's a brand called Morning Star Farms.

At my Wal-Mart store, it is under the juice concentrate section.

And now, Wal-Mart also has a area in their vegetable section that is all organic! To find it, just look for the little green signs that say "Organic".

Walmart, Sam's Club, Costco. Maybe look in your local business websites too. Even if it's a town or 2 away. If it's important enough, you'll drive for it.

Larry, watch out for the flexis, you look like their perfect match matewise.

I've recently become vegetarian, and I usually shop at ordinary supermarkets such as Kroger's or Meijer's; they typically have a special section for vegetarian/vegan/organic foods, including soy products and tofu, near the produce section. You might also find something in the foreign foods section, though I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for.

PS: Your English is not bad at all; you have better typing skills than some Americans I know. =))

You're from Japan?!?! that is SO cool. it's a pleasure and my honor to get to answer you're question.

Try these places.

I normally shop at walmart and the farmer's market for my food. but, I've never been to Indiana so I have no knowledge of farmer's markets being there.

The places listed above are places I found on the internet. I hope they are useful to you and your quest for food.

P.s.

Try making this with the tofu you found.

* 1 tablespoon canola oil
* 1 (12 ounce) package extra-firm tofu, drained and cubed
* 1 tablespoon seasoned salt, or to taste
* 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
* 1 small onion, chopped
* 3 cloves garlic, minced
* 1 (10 ounce) can coconut milk
* 2 teaspoons curry powder
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
* 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro

DIRECTIONS

1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add tofu cubes, season with seasoned salt and fry until golden on all sides, stirring occasionally, about 15 minutes. Remove to paper towels, and set aside.
2. Melt butter or margarine in the same skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic; cook and stir until tender. Stir in coconut milk, curry powder, salt, pepper and cilantro. Return the tofu to the skillet. Simmer over low heat for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Hope all that helped.

I just become a vegan a few day ago. Supermarkets should have a ton of things. Also look on Peta.org or vegcooking.com for info on things that are vegan and vegan cooking. DON"T SHOP AT WALMART! They use cheap labor in countries like China and drive small shops out of the job. Plus lead is everywhere there. Not just in toys. (Even the lip balms!)

Go to Whole food.They have everything you could want but it is a lot of money.Also try Wal-mart.The big ones.Sometimes the smaller ones don't have every want or need.Also your english is very good for only 2 years
