Is it right that MSG can make you stupid??!
Answers: what kind of sickness that MSG gives to us if we eat to much of it??
MSG does not make you stupid. According to the FDA, a poriton of the population can have a bad reaction to MSG.
"An unknown percentage of the population may react to MSG and develop MSG symptom complex, a condition characterized by one or more of the following symptoms:
burning sensation in the back of the neck, forearms and chest
numbness in the back of the neck, radiating to the arms and back
tingling, warmth and weakness in the face, temples, upper back, neck and arms
facial pressure or tightness
chest pain
headache
nausea
rapid heartbeat
bronchospasm (difficulty breathing) in MSG-intolerant people with asthma
drowsiness
weakness.
In otherwise healthy MSG-intolerant people, the MSG symptom complex tends to occur within one hour after eating 3 grams or more of MSG on an empty stomach or without other food. A typical serving of glutamate-treated food contains less than 0.5 grams of MSG. A reaction is most likely if the MSG is eaten in a large quantity or in a liquid, such as a clear soup.
Severe, poorly controlled asthma may be a predisposing medical condition for MSG symptom complex.
No evidence exists to suggest that dietary MSG or glutamate contributes to Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's chorea, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, AIDS dementia complex, or any other long-term or chronic diseases.
No evidence exists to suggest that dietary MSG causes brain lesions or damages nerve cells in humans.
The level of vitamin B6 in a person's body plays a role in glutamate metabolism, and the possible impact of marginal B6 intake should be considered in future research.
There is no scientific evidence that the levels of glutamate in hydrolyzed proteins causes adverse effects or that other manufactured glutamate has effects different from glutamate normally found in foods. "
no...none.. msg only fills u up.
none -just like any item, some people may have an intolerance or allergy to it.
i have heard that it is bad for you. not sure what kinds of sickness it causes though. but i know it is used in lots of chinese food restaurants. some of them on their menu or on tv say "NO MSG".
Think i must have eaten it ... I dont know what MSG is.. lol
What is monosodium glutamate (MSG)?
MSG is a flavor enhancer which has been used effectively for nearly a century to bring out the best flavor of foods. Its principal component is an amino acid called glutamic acid or glutamate. Glutamate is found naturally in protein-containing foods such as meat, vegetables, poultry and milk. The human body also produces glutamate naturally in large amounts. The muscles, brain and other body organs contain about four pounds of glutamate, and human milk is rich in glutamate, compared to cow's milk, for example.
Glutamate is found in two forms: "bound" glutamate (linked to other amino acids forming a protein molecule) and "free" glutamate (not linked to protein). Only free glutamate is effective in enhancing the flavor of food. Foods often used for their flavoring qualities, such as tomatoes and mushrooms, have high levels of naturally occurring free glutamate.
problems associated with MSG include
may be causing your headaches, stomach problems, depression, asthma, chronic fatigue, hyperactivity, or joint
pain.
Haven't found anything about making you stupid so far.....
No, it doesn't.
There's too many really smart Asian people for that to be true. It can cause migraine headaches in people who are susceptible to them, however.
I remember one of my extended research trips to a remote region in China before it was a more heavily travelled country, one of our party died from cardiac arrest brought on by MSG. Since we were in a remote village he didn't have access to medical care. Ever since then, I've avoided the stuff.
I am allergic to it. It stops my kidneys, so I retain fluids, and I vomit for at least 3 days, almost non-stop. My doctor says to stay away from it, it is like toxic poisoning. It is a flavor enhancer, developed by the Japanese or Chinese around World War 2 and was brought back to the US by the soldiers. A lot of restaurants use it, so I stay away from them, and I read every label. A lot of snack foods have it in now too. It is mostly in soups, all soup stocks, mostly prepared foods, and watch the meats, especially sausage and other processed meats. If a get a large dose of it, it may kill me. If I have nuts or some snack at a party, about 4 hours later I start to swell up, then I rush to the drug store and drink coke syrup (from the druggist) and then I go at both ends for about 8 hours. But at least it did not damage my kidneys that way. Some people only get headaches. One of my friends was in the hospital for a week and almost died. She did not even know she was allergic to something. The state of Connecticut has outlawed it in the restaurants unless it is on the menu and no one wants to put it on the menu. I wish they would not use it at all. The kids that eat the noodle soup probably get sick and the parents do not even know what from. I would say, read every label and stay away from it. A headache is not worth eating it. Stay healthy.
I read about a link between metabolic syndrome( obesity+diabetes+hypertention), cancer, rhynitis, allergic reactions of many kinds, headaches...
of course not
it does not give u a sickness, just a stomachache if u eat alot
MSG is a plant based chemical. It is naturally occurring in many plants particularly cassava (where most commecial MSG is obtained)
