Is protein you get from say a nutrition bar or soy or beans the same protein you get from meat?!

Im a vegetarian and my dad insists that you need protein from meat not just from protein bars or soy or beans or cereal.

Protein is pretty much protein....it does come in different forms (it has to b/c it comes from differen sources) but at the end of the day, it does the same thing for your body.

Yes, meats contain a lot of protein and it's absorbed fairly quickly into your body, BUT the downside of eating meat is that it is hard for our bodies to digest. Humans don't break meat down quickly and it stays in the digestive tract for quite some time and that's totally unhealthy.
Plant-based protein takes longer to absorb, but the by-products pass through the digestive tract quicker, taking many toxins along with them. It's basically a win-win.
Oh- and one other thing: it is a common misconception that humans need a lot of protein. A lot of Americans eat too much protein on any given day...large amounts of it are taxing on our livers and kidneys. If you eat a well-balanced vegetarian diet, you should be fine in the protein department.

Meat and soy contain all the amino acids in their protein, beans and nuts don't but if you eat a variety you get them all. The nutrition bar - it would depend on where the protein came from but it's usually whey or soy and both are complete. It doesn't really matter if it's complete or not though it's still good for you.

Well of course if you eat enough nutrition bars, soy (which is bad for you if you have too much), or beans you can equal the protein in a much smaller amount (and tastier) of meat. And it doesn't have to be "red" meat ... fish, seafood or poultry are loaded with protein as well as many other necessary nutrients that you don't get in the "substitutes". Fish and seafood is so VERY healthy for you.

It is right, that animalic proteine comes a little faster to the cells, but
eating meat frequently makes your body lazy by geting used to too much proteine (@one time) as well (like drinking oxygene water all day long)

- tofu is the fastest in vegi (I know it is'n so tasty in the beginning) *sfaik*
- nuts should be able to deliver everything but are "slow" deliverers (no peanuts, aspergillus)

on the other hand it is true that a regular meat eater gets so much poison by uric acid like smoking one package of marlboro a day without having the stress of inhalation ;-)

similiar, but not the same. there are amino acids found in the flesh of animals that is not found in any other substance -so your dad is partially correct. that amino acid is necessary to a healthy diet, but moderation is key. the closest substitute is brown rice and black or red beans.

You dont need to get protein from meat. you can and are getting it from any number of sources. Meat is however a "complete protein" meaning it has all the types of amino acids that we need. Eggs and milk also have complete protein as well as the vegetable/grain quinoa. Soy however is missing one amino acid, but it is very close to being complete. There is nothing magical for your health about getting all amino acids from the same source. With a healthy, varied vegetarian diet you shouldnt have any problems with protein.
