Has to do with tariffs.

Both. Sort of. "Vegetable." is a kind of plant. And a tomato plant falls under this category. But fruit is a part of a plant, and what we normally call the "tomato" is actually the fruit of the tomato plant.

Botanists have classified it as a fruit.

a fruit

When you ask whether or not it's a fruit or vegetable, you're asking a culinary question because the term "vegetable" is a culinary term so in that respect, most people consider tomatoes vegetables because they are used in savory cooking.

Botanically speaking, tomatoes are fruits because they contain seeds. A fruit is actually one of the ovaries of a tree.

"Vegetable" is not a scientific term used in botany, so it doesn't really make any sense when people say "tomatoes are fruits not vegetables". Are they trying to say scientifically, tomatoes are fruits not vegetables (when "vegetable" is a culinary term) or the same thing in a culinary sense?

Unless you consider tomatoes a sweet fruit that can be eaten raw (which it can be) as opposed to a vegetable used in savory cooking, tomatoes are vegetables. It all depends on how you use them I guess.

But one thing's for sure: scientifically, tomatoes are fruits because there is no such thing as a "vegetable" in botany.

Classified as a Fruit but we tend to use it as a Veggie.

Its a fruit as it has seeds!
