Beef and pork to veggies? why should i make the switch? Health reasons only please!?!
Answers: health reasons only please. don't tell me it's cruel to harm animals, and eating veggies instead will save them.
Read "Skinny B*tch." It will have all the answers you would want to know, from health to the animals to the planet.
more protein and vitamins. plus much healthier.
According to the American Dietetic Association (one of the leading nutrition experts in the U.S.): "Vegetarians have been reported to have lower body mass indices than nonvegetarians, as well as lower rates of death from ischemic heart disease; vegetarians also show lower blood cholesterol levels; lower blood pressure; and lower rates of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and prostate and colon cancer."
we're protected more from heart disease, and becoming overweight
:)
If you just want to do this for health - trade the beef and pork for fish and chicken. Nothing's healthier than a diet rich in vegetables and fish! If you're having to "switch" you already have a health problem there - you should be eating 4-5 (or more) servings of vegetables every day whether you eat meat in addition or not. Vegetables don't replace the meat in your diet, you replace that with other things from the protein group like beans, nuts, seeds, legumes (including soy). It doesn't matter what else you're eating, if you eat no vegetables you will be unhealthy.
Some cuts of beef and pork are unhealthy because of high levels of fats, but not all. Taking into account all veges and healthy cuts of meat, health comes down to preparation.
Be aware that vegetarians don't eat ANY animal flesh, contrary to what the flexi-trolls would have you believe. As you can see by ther thumbs, they and their disinformation aren't welcome here.

I am a true vegan because it is the spiritual path that I chose. But I can assure you that if you do everything in moderation and balance, any diet is fine for health reasons. The American Dietetic Association is an organization that makes pronouncements based on those who do not have balance and moderation. In other words, how most people ACTUALLY eat . . . now how they SHOULD eat. Anyone using them as a source, should use them intelligently and understand HOW and WHY they come up with their conclusions. Not just stupidly take every word literally. True vegans intelligently look at methodology.
I've seen mention of the Japanese on here. They eat fish/seafood and are a vegetarian country. They have a globally recognized most healthy diet and live longer than people from other countries.
I wish everyone were a true vegan, but I have to be fair. So you can eat beef and pork IN MODERATION and in balance with diet that contains mostly veggies and you will be fine.
Don't make the switch. Just don't wolf down large amounts of beef and pork. Google "Flexitarian Vegetarians" or "Flexitarian Diets". Those of us that aree flexitarian vegetarians have a diet that is between 70-90% plant based and the rest is fish, seafood, poultry and some of us get into beef and pork. It's a great HEALTHY diet. Here in the states we eat wayyyyyyyyy too much red meat and that does cause problems. But if we balance out diets, we can have good health and good eating!!!
AND you don't have to feel socially awkward belonging to an odd group of "strict" preachy, vegetarians.
