As a vegan (or vegetarian), what is the most annoying/funny question someone has asked about your diet?!

Question: For example: Can vegetarians eat animal crackers? --- Oh that's a classic and a half. Heard it a million times. See it on here everyday.

Answers: For example: Can vegetarians eat animal crackers? --- Oh that's a classic and a half. Heard it a million times. See it on here everyday.

Here are some of my favorites

" Vegetarians have to take lots of supplements dont they?"
" but Humans need meat!?"
" but Being Vegetarian is un-manly?!"
" but God made animals for us to eat? "

And the all time best, from some Americans I met in Tecso, who on seeing and asking me why I was buying from the Vegetarian section.

" If you want to be a communist why don't you go live in Russia?"

by far the best ever IMO.

"How can you get protein without meat?"

Or

"But there are only proteins in meat that you cannot find in anything else, they are the proteins that make you gain muscle"
(I swear someone actually said this to me online!)

"But what do you eat?" as if meat is the only thing that is eaten.

Even when I ate meat - I didn't just eat meat. A mind boggler of sorts - or maybe it is just something that happens only in Texas.....

most annoying is the repeated question over and over "why are you vegetarian, no tell us in detail." or "won't you die from not eating meat?"

weird..."does vegetarian you can only eat meat that taste like vegetables" i'm pretty sure that person wasn't serious aha

"If you don't eat salads, what do you eat??"

can you still eat bacon, icouldn't belive it

Well, i'm vegetarian so some people actually thought I eat "chickin and fish".

Haha I had to tell them, real vegetarians don't eat chickin and fish!

Lol fools.

Do vegetarian people in India wear shoes?

Most common: "So, you eat fish, right?"
Funniest: "Does that mean you can't eat nuts?"
Weirdest: "Are you in some kind of cult?"
Most annoying: "Aren't vegetarians supposed to be skinny?"

1) So you only have white blood cells, no red ones?

2) Are you missing the proper teeth needed to eat meat?

3) You're not a real vegetarin if you eat bread (yeast) or sprouts because those are living things.

Good question, these responses are all fun to read!

the yeast question is the most annoying, though i tend to respond with an educated intellectual response based upon my education in dietetics which tends to annoy my contester even more.

The animal cracker one is annoying but it makes me laugh so it's ok, the one that really bothers me is the people comparing vegetables to animals. Get a brain people.

"Why, God put animals on the earth for us to eat" is what i get alot!!!!!!!!! it gets on my last nerves, also the protien thing is very common. I also am told quite often that its not healthy. but other than that I just get mocked by friends and what not (which is not quite as bad)

"Do you eat peanut butter?"

and

=============

Friend: "Is your food "real"?"

Me: "no, it's a mirage. The plate is actually empty"

===============

AND:

"What do you like, eat? air?"

grrr

========================
OOHH AND

"wait, so you can't eat eggs?"
"no, i DONT eat eggs."
"but you can eat egg whites, right?"

========================
annd

idiot: eurgh, soymilk, that comes from beans. gross.
me: what, as opposed to milk which comes from infected, inflamed cow TIT?? mmmmmmmm, tasteh.

==================

"sunflowers can move on their own. yeah, they move toward the sun!" =.="

===================

student number one: "no. only animal products have cholesterol."
student number two: "well, i know there's something bad for you in avocado."
me: "they are high in fat, but they're also pretty nutritionally dense."
student number two: "yeah, i like avocado on burgers."
me: "so which is it? do you care about your cholesterol level or not?"
student number two: "oh, i was just saying that for you, since you're vegan and all."

==============
ooh aaaand:

Me: Well... this veggie burger is actually really good
Friend: Hey, you can't have that.
Me: ... Why not?
Friend: Well, it's a veggie burger. doesn't it have meat?
Me: It's called a VEGGIE BURGER because it's made from VEGETABLES!

I would tell people that I had been a vegetarian my whole life and they would reply..Don't you miss eating meat? I am also really sick of... Well what do you eat then?

I have been a vegan for years now, so I've heard just about everything...

But probably the most funny was when a friend of mine told me a few years back that I was going to die from malnourishment. Well, it has been 10 years since she said that, and WOW, I'm still here. Simply amazing!

1) no, vegetarians cant eat fish because fish are mammals
2) why do you eat meat, are you a cannibal?
3) "meat is murder!! Go veg!!
4) why meat eaters lack the compassion that vegetarians have?
5) why are meat eaters so information deprived?
6) don't you know that humans are not designed to eat meat?
7) does eating meat make you stupid?
8) arent' vegetarians healthier tha omnivores?
9) is anybody annoyed by "stupid" questions that omnis ask vegetarians?

ooops wrong answers eh? But I guess, being annoying is a two way street..

I get the constant one of 'You eat fish and chicken, don't you? I'm vegetarian, and i eat fish and chicken.' Two words: not vegetarian.

My all-time favorite:
So, do you, like, eat a lot of vegetables?
I seriously almost died.

Other common questions:
So what do you eat?
You don't eat fish? (followed by a look of shock and horror)
Does it bother you that I am eating *insert meat product, usually a burger, here*?
Why can't you eat Jell-O?

- But you still eat fish, don't you?
- neither chicken?
- nor ham?
- ok, you can have a salad with tuna then ....
Grrr, people, those are animals!!!!
- What do you eat then?
- But how come you don't feel sorry for vegetables?

I hate to repeat what others have said, but I do get the following a lot:

"So, where do you get your protein?"

"Don't you miss eating meat?"

"You can still eat fish, right?"

This one is a bit out in left field. I had a conversation with a friend of a friend (someone I didn't know well):

Lady: "I could go for a cheeseburger right now. Do you want to come with me?"

Me: "No thanks, I don't eat meat."

Lady: "WHAT?! You don't eat meat?! Are you a **lesbian**?"

Me: "No, I'm a vegetarian."

lol.

How about-Do they ask you"You do know if cows would eat you they would";)mmmmm cheesesteak.

Vegetarianism is a BODY-SPIRIT-MIND balance...never stop at eating habit alone. If we understood that, would never ask others the most "annoying" questions. But not wrong if someone asked in pretty anxious innocence. Answer him/her politely and tactfully.

Yes, my daughter only eats one or two kinds of foods at a time. And also, many teenagers are choosing to become vegetarian on their own, just instinctively!

Here's how I think the diet on this planet is evolving:

(And I do believe in God. Geesh, why people think that God and evolution are opposed!!!!???? Don't people THINK!!!)

Anyway, that venting felt gooooood! But here goes:

Paleolithic diet, omnivorous, vegetarian, vegan, raw-vegan (from 50% raw to 100% raw to mono-eating like my daughter), fruitarian, finally breatharian...are just the order of conscience evolution.

In modern concept of “vegetarian” or “vegan” often MISUNDERSTOOD according to his/her physical, emotional and mind state.

Diet influences the state of mind, and the state of mind influences the diet choice, there into Self Realization (Modus Operandi)..

Veganism (also strict or pure vegetarianism) is a philosophy and lifestyle that seeks to exclude the use of animals for food, clothing, or any other purpose.Vegans do not use or consume animal products of any kind.The most common reasons for becoming a vegan are ethical commitment or moral convictions concerning animal rights, the environment, or human health, and spiritual or religious concerns.Of particular concern are the practices involved in factory farming and animal testing, and the intensive use of land and other resources required for animal farming.

The word vegan, pronounced /?vi?g?n/,was originally derived from "vegetarian" in 1944 when Elsie Shrigley and Donald Watson, FRUSTRATED the term "vegetarianism" had come to include the eating of dairy products, egg, fish, etc .He founded the UK Vegan Society. They combined the first three and last two letters of vegetarian to form "vegan", which they saw as "the beginning and end of vegetarian".The British Vegan Society defines veganism in this way:

The word "veganism" denotes a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude — as far as is possible and practical — all forms of exploitation of, manipulation of breeds, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of humans, animals and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals. Other vegan societies use similar definitions now.

"What the hell are your parents trying to make you do?"

"So if you don't eat meat, what DO you eat?"

"Can you eat animal shaped foods?"

"So if you don't eat meat, do you still get your period?"

And EVERYTIME I tell people I feel sick it MUST be because I'm vegetarian =P

Gah, gotta love them =P

<3

Questioner: You cant' be a vegetarian. Do you know what the Vegetarian Society says is the definition of vegetarian is?

Me: No, I don't care, I'm a flexitarian vegetarian like millions of others around the world. You let the Vegetarian Society define you if you want to.

Like these half-baked societies, associations, or whatever matter to the world at large and self-secure people in it.

Here's a picture of mine:
