Can I eat cod's roe?!

Question: I've been a lacto-ovo vegetarian for 2 weeks now and I want to know if I can eat cod's roe, it's kind of popular in Denmark. Can anyone tell me how they get the cod's roe from the fish and if a lacto-ovo is supposed to eat it or not?

They need to kill the fish to garner the roe.
But it's your call...

Yes but don't eat roe's cod or but it ,it smells when you fry it!

NO NO and NO again!

Roe is eggs from fish if you don't want to eat fish and you don't want to eat eggs you can't eat roe.

Besides, it's not that nice.

I quite like it but it is quite strong.
I would suggest you check with a dietition or a GP about the lacto-ovo issue.

Yes, Cods roe is delicious steamed with a mustard sauce

Vegetarians can't eat that, sorry. Ive been veggie for coming up 6 years. The first few months are the hardest, getting used to what you can and cant eat, but you soon start remembering lists as long as your arm of stuff you cant eat and it becomes second nature. Good luck anyway, and stick with it!!

yeah, u can't eat it, my mom a chef and she says they have to kill it to get the fish out

I would have thought the fish roe wouldn't come out of the fish just when the manufactures want it to so they must get cut open first.

But if your are an lacto-ovo vegetarian, it means that you eat dairy and eggs. that does not include fish. I dont think its right to eat any animal, but I dont think its as bad to eat a cod as to say, a cow.

I love codfish, but salted codfish not the fresh one! you see, I′m from Brazil and , since we used to be a portuguese colony, and most of us are portuguese descents, we prepare the salted codfish here! Portugal and Norway have the greatest salted codfish in the whole world! eating salted codfish is a tradition here in Brazil, specially in Rio de Janeiro, where the portuguese influence is even stronger! but I have never heard of eating the cod′s roe! I′m not sure if they have it in Portugal but here in Brazil we definelly don′t! so, I′m afraid I can′t help you with your doubt, good luck!

No.

Certainly. The fish are not harmed.

Roe is fish EGGS for those of you with clueless responses.

All you do is squeeze their belly and it comes pouring out, though cod roe wouldn't be very high quality roe.

You can eat it if you want. Why aren't you figuring out what YOU'RE okay with eating then finding a label to fit it instead of the other way around? Vegetarianism is a CHOICE. How do you not know what you're okay with eating?

p.s. fish are killed to harvest caviar/roe.

No- of course you can't! The clue is in the name- 'COD'S' roe. Suprise, suprise- it's FISH!! Eating fish is not being vegetarian. Just eat it, enjoy it and stop trying to impose boundries on yourself by giving yourself a label that you clearly have no intention of living up to.
