Do you have to be vegan to be straight edge?!
And for those of you who have no idea what straight edge means, it means you don't smoke, drink, or any other harmful things to your body.
Answers: I am straight edge and I only have 2 straight edge friends. One is vegan and the other is not. Do you think you have to be vegan to be edge?

sXe (straight-edge) varies from source to source as to how it is defined. There is unanimous agreement that sXe people won't drink, smoke or do drugs. However, some add in that they will not engage in sexual promiscuity. And then there are those that follow a vegetarian or vegan diet in addition to everything else. I think there are levels of how sXe you want to be.
Just decide for yourself how far you are willing to take the sXe lifestyle, I suppose, and how hard-core you want to be about it.
Personally, I wouldn't really put eating meat, dairy and eggs in the same category as narcotics, alcohol or smoking! As Morgan Spurlock said in Super Size Me, " I could be strung out on ham for days and be fine!"
Also, I think sXe is fine when you're young (up until 18), but once you're a mature adult, I think you shouldn't drive yourself crazy with things like that. Wait until you are old enough to make mature decisions about things like sex and alcohol, for instance, but after that I think you'll find your attitudes will shift.
I know that in middle school and high school I always felt I would never want to have a single drop of alcohol, but now as an adult I know it's possible to enjoy a few drinks with friends or family and still be a respectable person. Use your own head rather than a group mentality to define what is "okay" and "not okay" to you. Certainly sXe is a safe thing to follow as a minor but it is hard to see someone that's an adult, trying to date and have a social life, enjoy themselves as sXe. It's possible, of course, but very restricting.
I can't help but to smirk when I see self-proclaimed sXe kids who aren't at least some form of vegetarian (strict vegetarian would be ideal. Vegan is a lifestyle and sxe doesn't have anything to do with animal ethics.) I see what many of them eat and it makes me wonder wtf the point is of them using the label and being against "poisons" but not giving a second thought to what they're eating (vegetarian or otherwise.)
I also think proclaiming yourself straight-edge is a novelty teen thing that wears off when you grow up. Your beliefs may not, but putting the cute kiddy label of "sXe" on it will.
