Why should I become a vegeterian?!
Answers: I just watched horrific videos on youtube.com about slaughter houses. A teacher friend of mine is a vegan. I am not sure I could do that, but I am interested in not eating meat anymore. Do you all have any references or suggestions or even pros and cons of being vegetarian?
It is great that you are thinking about this. I have been a vegetarian for a number of years now. You can find countless references on the web. Herbivore magazine is great. The best thing about being veg. is that you have so much more energy. You are more aware of your place on the planet. You are healthier. Your skin gets this glow and people ask you if you are in love. (I quit wearing makeup;I didn't need it!) You have a lower risk of cancer and heart disease. My friends get so excited about my dinner parties because I am the best cook they know....There are so many benefits that I cannot list them all.
I've seen these videos. It's really sad. I have no cons, but it is healthier.
well, i say that god put certain animals on this earth to provide food for us but that doesnt mean that im going to eat them. i think most meat is disgusting. i only enjoy eating chicken.
its a personal choice ,not some kind of religion. If you choose to give up meat then more power to ya........
wel i dnt really kno if that is is such a good idea because u need protein in ur body and i think thats bad. I understand how u feel but its nartural to eat meat so dnt worry about it soooo much. but if u still wanna be a vegieterian than i would suggest that u have a lot of leagumes which are plants that have protein in them.
so you could save the animals...i'm not a vegetarian because i think i can't find the protein in veggies. God provided us with poultry. i love lamb chops!
Here's what Jason Baker of PETA said:
"If slaughter houses had glass walls, WE WOULD ALL BE VEGETARIANS."
Vegetarianism is a choice. Either you want to do it or you don't. Nobody can choose for you. If you don't have the ethics behind it, then it's not going to work for you.
Google vegetarianism and educate yourself on it.
I would suggest reading the books, they will inform you above and beyond what a handful of strangers manages to scrounge up from the top of theirs heads (it's easy to overlook things):
"What to Eat" by Dr Marion Nestle
"Food Politics" by Dr Marion Nestle
"Becoming Vegan: The Complete Guide to Adopting a Healthy Plant-Based Diet" by Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina
"Vegan Planet" by Robin Robertson
--this is a cookbook
The con of being vegetarian (as you can probably see from all of the trolls in this section) is that some people will make fun of you or hassle you because your decision makes them insecure or because they are misinformed. (Many people think protein only comes from meat and that we need TONS of it, both of which are untrue.)
The pros are that it's usually healthier (unless you eat lots of junk food,) you are being more environmentally-friendly (which in turn helps everyone), and you're doing a great service to the animals.
Ask your friend for some help. Here's a website about transitioning. http://www.vegcooking.com/makingthetrans...
This book has everything you'd ever want/need to know about vegetarianism.

I am a vegetarian and my mom is too.
The benefits of being vegetarian are:
~ lower risk of cancer, heart disease, etc.
~ I feel better
~ save some animals lives =]
I hope you turn vegetarian!!! =]
.... because the local animals are too fast to catch?
You don't have to go vegan, or even completely vegetarian. You could simply choose to eat less meat.
If your health suffers when you don't eat meat, you shouldn't be vegetarian (either that, or you really need to get some variety in your diet). Rice and beans, so I've heard, make "complete proteins", and I think nuts go fairly well on their own. However, I am not a dietician, and my word is certainly not law on this subject. (I still say your health comes first, and some people's bodies seem to need meat to stay healthy)
If I were you, I would start by looking for vegetarian alternatives before you commit yourself. As Homer said "You don't win friends with salad".
Seeing those videos was what motivated me to become vegetarian... I suggest checking out this site for lots of info and transition tips: http://www.vegcooking.com/makingthetrans...
It really helps to use fake meats (veggie burgers, veggie chicken patties, etc.) in your favorite meals and recipes. See http://www.vegcooking.com/guide-favs.asp for a list of products. Good luck!
