I want to give up Gelatin.?!

Question: I've been a vegetarian for about a month now. I'm a lacto-ovo and I have been eating things with gelatin. I want to give it up but don't know what foods and brands have it in it. I know marshmellows but what else?

Jell-o, some yogurts, marshmallows (even the ones in Lucky Charms), some candies like some gummy bears or most candy corn, vitamins/pills in gel-caps.
Just check the ingredient label before you buy or eat something. Something you think might have gelatin in it, might actually not! That's the only way to be sure. I bought some snack bars a while back (honeymaid banana bars) and when I got home, I discovered that there was gelatin in them! I hadn't even thought to check.

lots of dips for chips have gelatin and or rennet... just read the ingredients on the packaging... good luck

I'm not being rude, but if you have still been knowingly eating things containing gelatin, you aren't vegetarian.
You're heading in the right direction though!
Gelatin / Gelatine is found in many, many tings, and is one of the easier 'hidden' ingredients to avoid. Do a wee bit of research, as there are so many things to avoid - even many E numbers are derived from animals!
Hopefully you will find good answers on here, which will give you an idea what to search for online.
Good luck =)

fruit on the bottom yogurt does not have gelatin in it, though i forget the brand name.
pop tarts with the frosting have gelatin, which sucks.
lots of dips and salad dressings and sour cream have gelatin. Its best to buy the packs to make it your self
Also, cheeses with rennit are to be avoided.

Do you know about rennet?
Rennet is in a lot of cheeses and made from calf stomach, it makes the cheese set... so you'll probably want to stop eating that too!

Pop tarts, jello, marshmallows, sour cream, haribo sweets, boiled sweets.... loads of things have gelatin in.
its clearly labelled, so you shouldnt have a problem - just get used to reading every label!

congrats on going vegetarian :)

It's in a hell of a lot of foods!
