Do vegans eat honey?!
Answers: What about diabetics, can they eat honey?
No, a true vegan does not eat honey.
I don't know about diabetics. Agave nectar is often recommended for diabetics because of the low glycemic index rating. Agave is also the substitute some vegans use for honey.
It's a nectar from the plant that tequila comes from. It has a flowery and buttery taste.
oh my god NO!!!!! that would be bee vomit..diabetics can eat honey and sugar just in moderation.. their problem is carbs and starches...
Diabetics and vegans have nothing to do with each other.
Vegans don't eat honey. If you eat honey, you aren't vegan.
a vegan eats nothing that comes from an animal. eating honey would be bad...
The reason vegans do not eat honey is not because it's bee vomit for Pete's sake. If your going to answer at least be kind about it.
They do not eat it because in some circles they feel that "bee keeping" is cruel to the bees.
It goes along with not using dairy as they feel the dairy industry is abusing the cow by keeping them constantly in milk mode.
As a vegetarian I personally do not agree with these statements, but that is my personal opinion and no one elses.
Its the mass killing of animals that bothers me.
There are just a ton of resources for vegan information on the net.....you will find they go from normal opinions to the ones that again are in my opinion just out in left field.
Do you own research then make your own choices.
Good luck
Hard core vegans do not, but I do know several who do, including myself. There is an argument among the vegan community itself as to whether bees suffer as mammals and poultry do. If they do not, than the eating of honey is not necessarily a sin on the animal community. As far as the health benefits go, Honey is in some ways very good for you and in some ways kind of bad for you, so it is a neural food in the health benefit sense. As I am a vegan for health reasons as opposed to animal rights ones (for the most part) I eat honey as I don't see how it is bad for me. As far as the bees go, several die in the process of making honey, at the same time, several would die anyways, and the death isn't necessarily painful, so take your pick on the ethics of it.
No Strict Vegans do not eat honey.
Can Diabetics eat honey? Yes, here is the scoop.
Honey is quite similar to sugar, so there is no real advantage from substituting honey for sugar. Unlike sugar, honey provides some minerals — but only in trace amounts. Also, honey is sweeter than granulated sugar, so you can substitute a smaller amount of honey for sugar in some recipes. But honey actually has more carbohydrates and more calories per teaspoon than granulated sugar has. So any calories and carbohydrates you save will be nominal.
If you prefer the taste of honey, go ahead and use it — but only in moderation. Be sure to count the carbohydrates in honey as part of your eating plan.
Honey vs. sugar: A nutritional comparison
Sweetener (1 tablespoon) Carbohydrates Calories
Honey 17 64
Granulated sugar 13 50
I persoanlly use Agave Nectar & Stevia I find they don't give me the highs & lows that Honey & Sugar do.
