soy milk will taste a tad funny if all youve ever used was cows milk, but its easily gotten used to, and quite enjoyable. Silk makes an awesome product with several flavours, but the original is slightly nutty and somewhat the consistency of whole milk. If youre looking for really off the beaten path, you can also get rice milk, almond milk, hemp milk, and so on, but these are in a different section of the store. These are tasty too, but a little more expensive. As for the nutrients you need, dont even worry about it. The calcium from plant foods is 10x more absorbable by the body than the calcium that comes from dairy, and you can easily get enough vitamin d from the sun. Magnesium is easy to find, just have some nuts a few times a week, and there ya go...no need for cows milk at all.
soy milk tastes like soy... which is gross when you're expecting milk flavor
Well, there's goat's milk.
Soy milk and rice milk are both milk substitutes from plants.
If it's a taste thing, you could try powdered milk . . . .
soy milk and take vitamin d or go in the sun, take calcium or eat foods that have it. you could try goats milk but you should avoid milk products like cheese, yougurts, ice cream, anything with casienate
There's soymilk (which is the most common) but there is also:
-Rice milk available at most supermarkets and health food stores
- nut milks (har. har.) like almond milk which can be made at home.
-...and don't forget about hemp milk, made from the seeds of the hemp plant.
Here's a recipe for almond milk: http://www.living-foods.com/recipes/almo...
@Dizzy: Soy milk is yuck? Soy milk comes from mushed up soybeans, cows' milk comes from a pregnant cow's TIT.
Soy milk, rice milk, hemp milk. They all taste a little weird if you're used to cows milk (Sort of nutty flavored and a thinner consistency). I can't drink them straight but they're good in cereal or hot drinks like you said. They also make soy creamer. All of these are available in the natural foods section at the store. You can get them enriched with vitamins to get enough nutrients. If you get soy milk, make sure you buy organic as the inorganic version uses a process that isn't so good for you.
soya milk is lovely
rice milk is much tastier than soy milk. if you have "Rice Dream" wherever you are, buy it.
goat or soya its up to you
Do you have any idea what these "nutrients" you need are? or are you just parroting what you've heard? I suggest you research vegetarianism and learn for yourself.
That said, there are lots of nondairy milks. Soy, rice, oat, hemp, hazelnut, almond, and so on.
Soymilks taste different depending on the brand... the Silk brand tastes pretty good and is nutritious. I also like the Living Harvest hemp milks - http://www.worldpantry.com/cgi-bin/ncomm...
Other alternatives to cows milk are rice milk and almond milk.
I really don't need as much calcium and ppe place emphasis on. but there's plenty of calcium contained within green foods like parsley. soya milk tasts pretty good, especiall the vanilla flavoured ones. good luck. milk isn't bad but the processes that it goes through now may it unhealthy for you in the long run.
I used soya milk for a while there are many different brands and some are better than others, sorry can't remember which brand I liked best.
You can also try rice milk or oat milk, I personally preferred the soya, but it is a matter of taste.
Vegetarians still drink cows milk and other dairy products. It is vegans who do not eat any dairy products.
It is easy to get all the nutrients you need from a vegetarian diet but you should do some research before starting, this is even more important if you decide to become a vegan.
Here are some websites for you to find out more information.
Soya ok it good for people who may not be able to have dairy products tesco is about the nicest I've tasted so far
Soy milks vary greatly in taste. Some are not very tasty. Others, like "So Good" in Australia and "Silk" in the US taste better than most of their competitors. But, it's all a question of personal taste - try a few different brands till you find what you like.
I like goat's milk too, but I don't have it very often because it's a bit expensive. Usually I'll buy it if there's a carton in the supermarket that's reduced to clear.
I haven't come across hemp milk yet. Sounds interesting though.
i am a vegetarian too! GOOD JOB!! yes, infact there is a soy milk. i think the best kind is silk soymilk because it tastes good, (to me it does) and it comes in many different flavors- plain, chocolate, vanilla, fiber enriched, etc.
soya milk, home made nut milks, rice milk (rice dream is the brand in the UK).
when you are a vegan you need to make sure you get your vitamin B12. this is usually added to commercial non-dairy milks but just check before you buy.
these days you can also get lots of non-dairy cheese, yogurts etc.
Soy milk is great as long as you don't buy the sweetened variety. I use it for 'milk' sauces, savoury and sweet. I also put it on my breakfast cereal AND, I drink it plain and unadulterated.
Soy Milk isant all that bad.
Its diffrent, but its ok.
Soy milk, which is rank.
Goats milk, which tastes like cows milk that is on the turn
And Dogs milk, which lasts for ages, mainly because no bugger will drink it
Soy milk is NOT MILK
