Vegans, does the look or smell of some non vegan food make you feel guilty cos u miss it?!
im NOT talking about a juicy steak [ definately no urge at all] , im talking about any food, like whipped cream, or a pizza with cheese, lol
does it wear off?, or do those feelings sometimes happen after years?
thanks xxxxxxxxxxx
Answers: its still early days for me, just wandering if people who have been vegan for ages still get moments like ''ooooh, that would taste so good'',

I really haven't had any trouble with it, although early on I thought I would. I was a vegetarian for a very long time, and while I could remember what some things tasted like (and remembered liking the taste of them), the awareness that it is some poor dead animal's muscles/tissues is pretty disgusting. The thought of eating meat is not at all appealing.
When I went vegan about 10 years ago I was afraid I'd miss ice cream, cheese, etc. I'm a vegan for ethical reasons, but the one thing that helped me make the transition was the gross out factor- I just thought about the pus that is in milk.

There has been a rumor for a while that chocolate milk was made because of pus and blood in milk- it's turned out to be unsubstantiated, but there is still a significant amount of pus in milk. Fortunately, it was that extra little edge I needed at the time.
Now I'm grossed out enough by it to not miss the things its made of. I miss eating ice cream, but then I think about what it's made out of, and you couldn't force me to eat the stuff.
Fortunately, with substitutes like Tofutti (ice cream), Better than Cream Cheese, Sour Supreme, Hip Whip... I'm gettin' along just fine!
Not at all. In fact the longer I am vegetarian the more the smell of flesh disgusts me. I gag at the smell of McDonalds. It smells so rancid.
We were born with canines and molar teeth,we are omnivores! If I go without meat for 2 days,I get really cranky. Each to his or her own choice.
Sometimes you should be aware of what your body is trying to tell you through these signs - when a body is lacking in a vitamin/protein/iron for e.g the brain sends out messages (cravings)
I haven't eaten meat for 17 years, but I have no idea how anyone can be vegan! It seems you are denying yourself soooo much. Good luck to you though, if this is the path you are following. =)
I think it's normal to feel that way.
As long as your aware of it and control yourself you should be fine.
I'm not a vegan of course....Cause unlike others I LOVE McDONALDS!!!!
after 17 years meat free.. fried chicken still smells good to me.. But it's not a serious tempation..
I find that the nice smells of some foods containing meat do not smell nice because of the meat in them but other things- like herbs and spices used. The smell of bacon is just the smell of so much fat- frying olive oil with sea salt has a similar smell.
Also just because we have sharp teeth (even though they aren't sharp- you can't tear flesh like other carnivores/omnivores) doesn't mean we are 'designed' to eat meat- hippos have very sharp teeth and eat no meat.
Maybe the spices smell good. Meat on it's own is very bland.
I've been a vegetarian for a little while, and have not eaten eggs or dairy for the last two weeks. I actually think that pizzas taste better without the cheese (crazy, I know).
So far, I don't miss any foods. If there is anything I want, I just find a way to make it (like making pancakes with bananas instead of eggs).
I miss bacon!!!!! When I smell it I drool. I don't think I could eat it if it came down to it though. I just couldn't put it in my mouth. I think it would make me sick.
