Why are peta members so intolerant?!

Question: I totally respect their beliefs not to wear fur or leather and not to eat meat, that is their choice, but what gives them the right to throw paint on women who wear fur and to make those horrible comic books for children to promote their cause? Why can't they respect other people's choice to wear what they want and eat what they want? Like I said, I totally respect their belief, even to the point where I chose not to wear my fur on my wedding day because I didn't want to offend my neice. Why can't peta respect other people?

Because PETA is a militant, enviro-terrorist group.

Militant terrorist groups aren't known for their "tolerance".

They think you kill living creatures for style or taste. And you do. Some are more annoying about it but keep in mind that you do what they say you do.

Who wears a fur on their wedding day?

They are just like any religious or idealistic group. They believe what they are doing is right, and that it is the only right way. I won't get in to a philisophical discussion, but this is nothing out of the ordinary. Unfortunately, the group's leader is a bit of a hypocrite, so I take everything they say and do with a grain of salt.

everybody needs a cause. They just went a little overboard

Why can't you respect animals? What gives you the right to pay for slaughter of animals? What gives you the right to wear fur?

I admire what they are trying to do, i think they just go about it the wrong way. I agree that they should have a little more respect for peoples choices especially kids, i think that is quite low. I guess its just alot of anger going round.

Although the fur thing...i can understand why they are so against that

OI! Giving my answer a bad rating! I wasn't even taking any sides :(

You would need to ask PETA, or the intolorant members of that organisation.

Anything else here is guesswork.

I guess some people think thats the way to promote thier beliefs and thier message is more important than the way its delivered..

Some are some are not. PETA is an organization and as such have their own share of fanatics. However, from what ic an see of their activities, the whole organization seems to be buying too much into their own propoganda. Though they do receive donations (some say from companies who ish to avoid being protested), many potential supporters like you are totally turned off by their antics. PETA needs the controversy. No contorversy, no donor funds. No donor fundds, no PETA. As for the comic book gimmick, that's was taken straight out of the cigarette makers handbook. They specifically target children for the next generation of fanatics. Children are easily shocked and are very impressionable so such a tactic is deemed effective.

No splashing of red paint since the 90s? Just because it isn't in the news, it doesn't mean it does not happen.

points to remember:

Not everyone that supports an peta org. is the same. its like saying all white people suck at dancing!

If people asked you nicely to stop killing and hurting animals for greed and selfish and profit making reasons, - would you?

a nice little post it note does not get anyone’s attention, in a society that has so much marketing.

Do you think many people know what happens to animals to make them into hamburgers? - Most people do not even think as their food as being a living creature at one time.
what you see is a round brown oily thing in between cheese and buns. - so to make the connection peta put out the videos they do!

You may see peta members on the streets or the news, but you never see the meat loddyist at DC that really try to make the mass's eat so much meat! - even though it may not be healthy for society. - so please why don't you write a letter to your congress person and ask them about the "farm bill", or any other issues that relate to your food! -

I suggest you do your own research and go to a slaughter house, or read books about the conditions animals are treated and kept and killed. -

p.s I do not belong to any group, I just take my time to think about things, and I try to educate myself on many different views. its called learning!

I completely agree with how disgraceful it is to give materials to children that are violent or disgusting by nature. I am vegan but it'd really rub me the wrong way if someone tried to give my daughter some of the gross stuff that PETA pushes into kid's hands.

Thankfully not all vegetarians or vegans support PETA, in fact, while their many sites and most of their information is a good stepping stone to enter the veg world, most people move beyond it and learn to think for themselves and research and be active in animal rights in their own ways... PETA has sort of soured it's relations with many animal rights organizations and many veg people.

If you are interested in knowing more, here's a question that was asked recently about whether vegetarians/vegans support PETA and what they think of their stunts... you'll be surprised to see that many people feel very critical of PETA in this forum (including me):

First off, I would like to point out that you came to the Vegetarian and Vegan section to post about PETA. This tells me that you think veg*ns (meaning both vegetarians & vegans) support PETA.

I don't. In fact, PETA is one of the few organizations that I absolutely hate. And as you will have already gathered from previous responses, most veg*ns are not associated with PETA in any way. The only thing PETA accomplishes is making veg*ns look completely insane, because most people erroneously equate veg*ns with PETA.

Now that that's out of the way, PETA members are so intolerant because PETA has essentially become a cult, and Ingrid Newkirk is their god. I equate PETA with religious fanatics of Al Queda. They do what they're told, and they don't second guess it. They believe that they are right, and they will get their message across by any means necessary, including their violent outbursts and use of nude women to gather new converts. They are a sad group of brain-washed volunteers.

Sadly, it's rare anyone outside the veg*n community truly knows how insane PETA is. I'm almost positive most PETA donations come from normal folks that just think PETA is for making animal shelters better. Nothing could be farther from the truth. PETA is a terroristic organization, and use fear tactics constantly in their campaigns. And on top of it all, they are one of the most hypocritical organizations today. PETA euthanizes the vast majority of animals that come through their headquarters.

The only thing I hate about being a vegetarian is being typecasted as a member of PETA.

The comic books are sad, but factual- and not at all bloody or violent. The comics put out by religious nutballs are far worse!
And when was the last time you saw anyone get splattered with paint? PR stunts in the early nineties?
