What do vegans think cows, pigs, and chickens should be used for?!

Question: they should be allowed to run free and frolick and make love in the sunshine. and then given voting rights.

Answers: they should be allowed to run free and frolick and make love in the sunshine. and then given voting rights.

They shoulden't be "used" for anything. That is just like asking what should humans be used for? Nothing! They should have every right to live as we do. See the sunshine, graze on grass, have social lives, it's what they need.

If you only knew what they went through.. so unfair and inhumane.

I'm guessing you're a meat eater who questions vegans/vegetarians..*sigh* lol

I'm not a vegan, but I can tell you that all animals have a purpose in the circle of life. I guess cows eat excess grass, which will over grow if they didn't, and provide food for other animals, pigs eat anything so the help keep the earth clean, and are a source of food for other animals, chickens do the same and another source of food for other animals.

they should be used for those who eat meat. i used to be vegan and didn't like inhumane treatment of animals.i didn't judge those who eat meat though.

pets...lol

They should be returned to the wild, with our help over however many generations it takes to fix this problem we have created. These animals survived in the wild for millions of years before we came along and domesticated them and altered them to better fit our needs over generations of selective breeding, and now genetic modification. I could maybe understand if we actually needed to eat meat to survive as a race, but we don't. We are killing billions of animals to satisfy our taste buds. Millions of vegans around the world are living proof that humans can flourish on a meatless diet.
Sadly, more and more 'wild' animals are being domesticated. For example, in Canada where I am from they now have deer and moose farms, who knows whats next. I can only imagine that at some point in our future people will be telling us that deer and moose cannot survive in the wild and they are better off serving our needs.

Producing milk, finding truffles and producing eggs respectively (but then I'm veggie not vegan)

what do we ( humans ) do with Zebras ? Or Aardvarks ?

Why does an animal have to have a "use" for humans just to justify its existance ?

Cows, pigs and chickens all exist in the wild, if we stopped eating them, that would continue.

I personally have pet sheep, chickens and cows and I can tell you they are not expensive to keep at all. They are not "pets" in the sense they are bought in for my entertainment, they happen to occupy my land because i stopped them being killed

"green eyes" did answer your question, please do not confuse "no answer" with an answer you don't agree with.

i don't know why blue 316 would laugh at those animals being pets. Its a symptom of the modern food chain that people are divorced from the food they eat. Why wouldn't a cow or sheep make a good pet ? People should get to spend a few hours with these animals and they would see it makes no sense to see a dog as a pet and not a cow as a pet, in the same way as it makes no sense to see killing and eating cows as OK but killing and eating dogs and cats as wrong. They are all animals with similar levels of character, thought, pain etc.

seabass said "so basically if u dont eat animals or any animal products u die"...crikey, is that the level of our "professional opinion" these days ? I guess all those life-long vegans are what, dead ?
Much of the rest of that post is typical anti-veg statements we've all seen before, why are you dragging natural carnivore behaviour into the equation ? not really logical and certainly not "professional opinion"

As for apples..... if you cannot tell the difference between an apple and a living being like a cow I suggest you get out at the weekend and go for a walk around the countryside. ( cows are the ones on legs, you know, the ones with a nervous system, brains, thought processes, a sense of self and community )

And i passed my 50th blood donation 2 years ago and gave bone marrow in 2007. At no point in all that time has anyone had an aneamia concern.

The unfounded insults to Shelly's neice and nephew make you sound like a child,

and finally, just a few months ago you asked these questions:
can a chicken lay eggs without having sex basically ?
and can the eggs produce chicks without being fertilised ??

I'm sorry, if you ask those questions you have little hope of offering any advice on the animal kingdom or food chain.

I am not a vegan so am only going to share my professional non-vegan opinion .. please read through..

I happen to work in histopathology/ haematology lab in england (I am a biomedical scientist). The majority of blood anaemias (pernicious anaemias) are from vegan pateints .. blood anaemia of folic acid and Vit B12 is a serious fatal disease that causes death if not treated urgently ... u know what is the solution to it? it is a peice of meat!! just eat a small piece of meat or an egg meal .. the only source of Vit B12 is in 'living' poultry and dairy products (even suppliments are extracted from poultry), so basically if u dont eat animals or any animal products u die .. there is no way around it !!

Since we have brains and can think sometimes .. this is life!! u eat to survive .. this is the whole concept of the animal kingdom and we are no different .. try teaching all lions/ leopards/ foxes/ tigers/ bears/ haynas / jaguars / snakes/ whales / crocodiles / hawks / cats ........etc to be vegans if this will make u feel better .. u simply wont.

According to Physiology, humans are Omnivores, they eat meat, they eat eggs and they eat animals .. so be normal .. be natural .. nature is not to stop eating animals .. it is the exact opposite !!! if its done humanily it is 100% correct !!!!!!

Another thing for our vegan friends .. please answer me this (msg me) .. i beg u to answer this ... when u pick an apple from a tree .. how was the apple like? was it dead?? was it lying there on the street or was it ALIVE on the tree .. setting in front of the sun there BREATHING oxygen carrying out photosynthesis and DRINKING water and EATING nutrients??? how could u kill that apple?? plants if u know anthing about Texonomy u should know that all plants are living beings .. they are living cells who not only respire / drink / eat (even flies and frogs in some cases)/ sleep / wake up/ move, but also catch cold and many diseases !!!! So now think about that whenever u make ur vegetable salad or when u bite down a poor orange.

Vegan-ism is not natural/ vegeteranism is wrong and being normal is ur answer ... so cows/pigs and chickens should be USED for our dinners as grass and plants were used for theirs .. as we also would be used by any hungry animal that happens to be next to us ..

.. and yea please answer me about the plants.. how is it ok to eat living creatures like plants and it is wrong to eat animals.

shelly P i really feel sorry for u and ur brother and more importantly their poor skinny children who had to be brought up this way in these unhealthy conditions .. please advice ur brother if he doesnt wanna eat meat he can do whatever he wants but let the children live a normal healthy life and even eat maybe mcdonalds from time to time .. trust me they wont get 'fat' as u think (protein doesnt make u fat Shelly P, it is carbs and sugars found in plants and vegetables).. when u donate blood u just give blood then it is send to the lab where it is classified accroding to the blood group and rhs +/- also all the necessary tests are carried on .. if someone is found even to have AIDS he /she is not informed according to the British laws. Try sending a sample of your blood to our lab am sure we might be able to help u understand if ur blood is 'as healthy as it gets' ..... and thnx for explaining what cns means .. and by the way plants CNS is replaced by a 100% functional capillary system that does its job perfectly in transporting messages from the leaves along the plant to its roots and vice versa .. also they do have emotions and have awarness coz i believe as u might not know they direct themselves to the light and move there to reach it by chemical and environmental cues.. and science only proved that music can calm them down and make them grow better ..

Michael H go take ur chicken out for a walk and stop reading questions i ask .. am sure ur cow daisy wants to fitch just throw her a stick and see what it brings back ...

Well we can't do anything with the animals now since we domesticated them for maximum accumulation of meat or other products, if we let them into the wild, they wouldn't know how to defend themselves, and some animals would just starve to death because they've become so dependent on humans to feed them...anyone seen madagasgar, same premise, take a few zoo animals into the wild and they'll starve to death, unless they have penguins to make sushi for them

Michael H. Is right.. no animal needs "usefulness to humans" to justify their existence.. in a natural environment, all animals keep things in balance.. we've domesticated animals and made them dependent on us.. but that COULD be reversed.. but it would take careful planning as to when/where to reintroduce them to the wild..

Anyway Sea Bass is NOT a lab tech, but obviously a 14 year old (or younger) trying to make himself appear knowledgeable..

I eat no meat (For 17 years now) and VERY rarely eat eggs (last time was probably months ago) and I just donated blood.. that means I'm not anemic (they check and won't let you donate if your iron is not perfectly fine) BTW.. I get B12 from nutritional yeast.. it's a delicious seasoning for popcorn or tofu..

My brother is very much vegan and has also donated blood in the past. He looks anything but pale or unhealthy.. He's kinda skinny.. but that's genetics.. he has the exact figure that our "meat and potatoes and junk food" father had at his age...My brother's two children, since conception (his wife is vegan) have never had meat, eggs, dairy in their life.. and they're as healthy as you get! I know lots of children raised vegan and while they're usually thin (Not unhealthy, but they lack the obesity that many modern "McDonald's" children have) they are all completely healthy..

He obviously does NOT know what you're talking about.

Oh.. to answer seabasses queston..

Oh, and plants, unlike animals, have no CNS (oh, forgot, you're not really a scientist, that stands for Central Nervous System) or brain, therefore they cannot feel pain, emotions, fear.. Animals do feel these things.. a plant has no "self awareness" (also requires brain) and do not "think".. they simply go by chemical cues and ajust to the environment..

OKAY!! the "Blood lab technician" has no idea of the blood donation process LOL He hinted that they don't test your iron.. I'm sorry, but I had the bruise and soreness on my index finger for 2 days afterward to PROVE that they did indeed stick my finger and check my iron BEFORE they gave me the green light to donate... This was just about week ago, so...

btw.. my nephew is a typically chubby 4 month old.. and my neice is a very husky looking (VERY TaLL) and not too-thin 3 year-old..

I think the answer would be why should they be used for anything at all? they are against all kinds of animal exploitation and use including according to some, pet ownership.

ignore the green eyed hypocrite. she thinks she owns this forum.

what should we be used for? or your cat/dog? Were they put here to be owned by you?

Livestock are not "natural" by Creation, therefore will be depleted in short time if everyone turned to be a vegetarian within a decade.

Remember, World War II was a difficult time for meat-eaters. The world reached acute shortage of livestock (because livestock never grow by itself), and many bone to Pick With Meat Eaters forced to grow grain for feed instead of food may be humanity's greatest evil yet.

Today, Hundreds of millions of people are going hungry every day all over the world because much of the arable land now is being used to grow feed grain for animals rather than food grain for people. Grain-fed cattle, pigs, chickens and other livestock, in turn, are being consumed by the wealthiest people on the planet while the poor go hungry.
