Please answer..why you eat the way you do?!

Question: Ok for vegans and vegatarians why don't you eat meat? Also, what do you eat?

I'm curious.

Answers: Ok for vegans and vegatarians why don't you eat meat? Also, what do you eat?

I'm curious.

I don't eat meat for a variety of reasons. One being that I think it's totally unhealthy to eat meat and animal by-products. They are full of fat, steroids, antibiotics, and cholesterol.
(You are what you eat!).
I also don't like the idea of the slaughtering industry treating the animals horribly in the process of making them into "food". It's deplorable and totally sickening. What a way to meet their demise after going through their short lives being mistreated and malnourished. Many pigs, cows and chickens are confined to spaces so small they cannot stand up and turn around. The live in their own waste.
(You are what you eat!)

What do I eat? Tons of delicious meat-free foods! I love black bean burritos (and tacos), oatmeal, salads (both green salads and pasta salads), stir-fries, sweet potatoes, brown rice, [whole-wheat] pasta with meat-free sauce, veggie burgers (in moderation), veggie sandwiches, sushi, TONS of fruit and veggies EVERYday, meat-free soups, stews and chilis, spinach lasagna, hummus, mock meatloaf....and the list goes on.

Kudos to you for trying to cut down on red meat. Every little bit helps (the cows, the environment and your health). Check out www.vegcooking.com for some great recipes that are very close to the "real thing" - they give good substitutes for your red meat if you're really craving it one day, but decide to stick with it.
Good luck! :-D

I eat because if I don't I die.

I ain't Vegetarian... but they're probably scared of getting diseases through animals or they're just protecting God's creations. and I eat everything edible. I LOVE Sushi :P

I feel bad about an animal losing its life to be my food, and I find meat kinda gross anyway. I still eat eggs and milk products though, because I feel like it is too hard to have a healthy vegan diet, especially where I happen to live. I eat a lot of soy products.

i don't eat it because
1) it's unhealthy
2) it rots in your colon
3) the meat industry often time tortures their animals before heartlessly slaughtering them in the most disgusting ways
4) I don't want to
5) The thought of eating an animal carcass is repulsive to me. Seeing raw meat is nasty. It's all covered in blood and fat. I'll pass

I Eat
1) Veggie Burgers
2) Vegetable Soups
3) Barilla pastas with added protein
4) Fruits and Veggies
5) Peanut Butter
6) Breads
7) Homemade foods like lasagna, spaghetti, ravioli, stuff like that
8) Stuffed Mushrooms
9) anything from Morningstar or Boca.

by the way to Michale F. don't bring the bible into this. When Adam and Eve lived in Eden they were vegan. Only until after they were exiled did they begin eating meat. And did god ever say it was acceptable to torture the animals before killing them? Animals were not put on this earth to eat and humans can survive without eating it

I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian so i'll eat dairy products and eggs. but i'm working on going vegan

EDIT

to the person who asked me to define torture, watch this, i think it will define torture for you

http://www.chooseveg.com/animal-cruelty....

oh and to the girl that said that vegetables are alive too, fruits and vegetables lack a heart and a central nervous system. They can't feel pain, they reproduce so much faster then animals do and if everyone stopped eating meat and went vegetarian less plants would die as well considering almost all of the farms that grow fruit and vegetable crops are used to feed the livestock that sits on your dinner plate

oooh also to the person who said all vegetarians have "pallid complexion, limp, stringy hair, sickly thin and dull, lifeless eyes."

do i look like i have any of that?

http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f217/e...

do i look sickly? do i have lifeless eyes? does my hair look stringy?

Okay i'm adding more onto my answer

thebourne_id, in order to get a cow to lactate don't you have to get it pregnant first? Cows lactate after they've had a calf and the cow continues to lactate until the calf stops nursing and then the supply of milk dries up. if people didn't separate the calves from the mothers directly after birth the mother's milk would be used for what it was originally intended for, which is nourishing the calf. So the cows udders would not get swollen and infected if they'd give the calf that was born the chance to nurse. oh and by the way the metal milking units used to milk the cows cut their udders.Due to the living conditions they're put in the cuts get infected and pus filled. Guess what, the USA has the highest legal milk to pus ratio. Doesn't sound like their doing the cow a favor to me. sorry man but all of your arguments have weak spots

I eat meat for protein helps build muscle mass, and it tastes good. Sure i understand how some people can say how its curel how we kill and animal and devour it, but one way to look at it is, what animal eats ONLY plants and is actually stronger or is not beneath it in the food chain of an animal that DOES eat meat? ( this animal must be alive not a dinosaur)

I'm not a vegetarian but love the food and the discipline behind it... I replace a lot of my everyday craving of carbs with something vegetarian and presto...I stay skinny.....doesn't work for everyone..but worth a try....

if you are willing to do it.

I eat all the meat AND vegetables I feel like, the human body is specifically designed to run on a mix of meat and vegetables, that is why we have sharp pointy teeth towards the front of our mouths (for ripping up the mouthfuls of meat we bite) and wider, flatter teeth towards the back (to crush, break and flatten the bites of vegetables we eat). You can only get a complete set of all the nutrients you need to stay alive (and healthy) by eating BOTH meat and vegetables. Ask any vegan, they will show you their cabinet full of supplements that they need to eat to make up for their incomplete all-veggie-no cheese or eggs diet. Note how they also look like a character from a Charles Dickens novel: pallid complexion, limp, stringy hair, sickly thin and dull, lifeless eyes. Seriously.

,,,

And for all the people who are vegan/veggie, for reasons of saving suffering to animals, why do you think animals are there in the first place? Probably so we can eat the ones that are tasty! After all if they truly are the majestic, powerful creatures people say they are, how come they are not eating us, huh? Take a chicken for example, are they meaning to say that without domestication by man, chickens would be running around free and hop-flying majestically here, there and everywhere? For what purpose? Are we really wrecking the ultimate outcome of their species? Last time I checked, no part of the world is exactly running out of chickens, and to all the vegans, how can you say taking eggs from a chicken or milking a cow is harming them? First off they do those things whether or not any humans are around and second, if you don't milk a cow, its udders will swell, split and burst and then the cow will die from a raging infection of its udder bag. How can you say what most people do is harming it?

well most vegans dont eat meat because either ther body doesnt digest it right. Or in most cases they are againts animale slautering.
Vegans dont eat anything that has came from an animale and vegitarians dont eat meat. we eat everything besides meat.

I am not vegetarian

but i can see why people do not eat animal products.
It can be religious
or just a concious decission to not eat anything with a soul.

Or a dietary constraint

THERE ARE THREE KINDS OF VEGETARIANS

The vegan
they do not eat anything from animals

the lacto
and then the ovolacto
I can not remember them in order but one is ok with cheese and milk and the other will eat stuff like fish and the other

Cyndi define torture!!! Please?

I have seen how the majority of animals are raised and killed for meat. I do not want to be a part of that because for me it just feels very wrong. I eat everything you do except meat, there really isn't that big of a difference in food choices.

I have been a vegetarian all my life...
here are some reasons (not in order from most important to least):
1.its healthy
2. animals are living things also so if someone isn't eating you, then why should you eat another living thing
3. karma (what goes around comes back around)
4. you can get extremely sick by eating meat
5. your body doesn't NEED meat... you can get protein and etc. from other foods
6. there are a lot more reasons.... it doesn't matter if you think meat tastes good... trust me... you will get over that... and A LOT of vegetarian things taste good, too.

some things you can eat:
1. rice & beans
2. pasta
3. bead
4. sandwich
5. pizza
6. salad
7. some Chinese food
8. most Indian food
9. most Italian food
10... there is A LOT more... it would take forever to name them all

and also you can go to a restaurant/fast food and tell them how to prepare it... for example if you go to taco bell you can ask them to give you a soft taco without the beef and substitute it with beans.... it taste really good!

If you are thinking of becoming a veterinarian... then i say... GO FOR IT! if your just asking because you want to know then... i think you should atleast think it over...

i hope this helped.... good luck

god bless.

Aren't fruits and vegetables alive before being harvested? Like a head of lettuce? If you make the argument that killing animals for food is wrong, then why is killing a head of lettuce for a salad okay; where is the line drawn?
I'm not being argumentative, I'd like to see what people think. Isn't killing, well, killing?

Also, you can get extremely sick from eating vegetables too. Remember the Taco Bell green onions?

I don't feel the need to condone or support animal cruelty so I avoid it to the best of my ability. I wouldn't want someone to treat my dog the way farm animals are treated, so I try to do unto others and whatnot.

I eat food.

AmIevenHere: *sigh* Go back to 5th grade and learn about nervous systems.

BlueElk: There's no such thing as a vegetarian who eats fish.
Vegetarian is a blanket term. It covers the 5 levels. There's none of this "pollo pesce semi" crap. Five. That's it.

NO vegetarians eat meat. Fish and chicken are meat.

Lacto vegetarians - milk, no eggs.

Ovo vegetarians - eggs, no milk.

Lacto-ovo vegetarians - eggs and milk

Strict vegetarians - strictly plant based diet. Some call it a vegan DIET (which is NOT the same as being vegan) No animal products. No dairy, no eggs, no honey, nothing animal-derived.

Vegans - plant-based diet (as above). Vegan implies moral concern for animals and extends to lifestyles as well. We avoid animal products in our consumables such as shampoo, make up, cleaning products, and so on. No leather, wool, suede, silk, and so on, and we avoid animal testing.

Kristina: Guess what? I'm vegan and I love sushi too. Sushi doesn't mean raw fish. Sushi means vinegared rice. Try again.

without having to elaborate, the reasons are: taste/pleasure, nutrition, convenience but not necessarily in that order. The ideal would be for every meal to be delicious and nutritious how I want it, when I want it, where I want it.

.=0 cyndi, i could only watch that video up to the bit with that cow, when there was this hot steam being put on it, and steam came out of it's nose, i started crying it was heart breaking, i have no idea how they treat the animals here in Nz. I only buy free-range eggs though. I hardly eat any meat, because i don't like the way it tastes that much. but now, i am not eating ANY meat again. i don't like it anyway

Why?

For all of the reasons you could mention - not just one reason.

Health - I'm much healthier as a vegetarian than I was before I became one. I also know I'm going to live a lot longer than I otherwise would have, with the reduced likelihood of getting colon cancer, heart disease, CJD, high cholesterol, amongst other things.

Ethical/moral - I object to animals being killed for human food, when it is just so unnecessary. Humans can survive easily without eating other animals. Carnivores do not have a choice. We humans do have a choice in the matter.

Environmental - when you (for example) clear hundreds of square miles of Brazilian rain-forest, just to raise cattle that will end up in US McJunkfood McRestaurants, do you, in all honesty, think that it's not going to contribute to global climate change? And the amount of grain that is fed to cattle (to fatten them up for human consumption) would feed a lot more humans than the cattle ever would.

Spiritual (no, not religious, as I'm an Atheist) - anything which has a face and a brain (except for a few humans I know!) also has a soul and spirit (the ancient Greeks called them the "psyche" and "pneuma") - the terms and meanings often get confused, and it's not helped at all by some high-up religious ignoramus declaring that animals don't have souls - probably as a justification for him eating animals. Basically they mean having a life force (or spark of life) and awareness. Animals DO have both of those and I'm not going to eat them.

*********************

What do I eat?

Just about any (edible) vegetable, fruit, berry, grain/cereal, nut, seed, pulse/legume, spice, herb, etc. The notable exceptions are mushrooms (which make me sick), mandarins and figs (which I don't like the taste of), chocolate/cocoa, coffee, cola, guarana, etc (caffeine gives me migraines).

Honey, sugar (mostly raw, not white), treacle, malt, salt (usually iodised), vegetable oils.

I also eat dairy products, as long as they don't contain rennet, pepsin, gelatin or anything else that I object to.

For drinking: some types of alcohol, herbal teas, decaffeinated teas, fruit juice, cordial, softdrink, water (prefer filtered), milk.

Of course, I didn't mention bread, pasta, cakes, biscuits (cookies/crackers), things like that - they come under grain/cereal, and I'll eat them as long as they don't contain something that I object to.

That's probably not all - just the things I could think of at the moment.

A good variety, you'd have to admit.

But the BIG thing is that, despite what one of the trolls said, I DO NOT take dietary supplements! I have no need for them - I never have. I get everything my body needs in the form of food and drink, not tablets and powders.

If you're a new vegetarian and you're worried about not getting enough of certain nutrients, you just need to come and stay with me for a week or two and observe - I'll set you right.

I don't eat meat because I believe its unkind. Also I work in animal care and it became the time in my life every time I eat meat I felt guilty. I eat quern Pisces, pizza, quiche and home made veggie meals.

human beings have the intelligence to realize the cruelty involved in eating animals. whether or not humans are ''designed to eat meat" we still have the brains to know we dont need it. Any person who feels wrong eating it..is just a smart person, they feel wrong because human beings do know better..and yet still continue to do it. They can think outside the box, they are willing to evolve and change to help end cruelty.

Because I don't want to eat rotting flesh. It's gross and is not needed. There are better alternatives.

I'm also all for animal rights, I just don't belive in eating them.

Ok, I'm vegetarian. I don't eat meat because I realised that I could see fat dripping out of it one day and thought "I wanted to eat THAT? I'm trying to be healthy!" And I could see tendons and bits like that and it felt really gross. And now I don't because I doubt I'd ever kill an animal.
So I stopped eating it and was happy and healthy (with exercise, of course) and didn't really want to eat meat or lactose products ever since.
What do I eat: everything else! Lord there are soooo many choices. You just have to be diverse. People who want the same old crap are scared of change.
