Does flax seed oil need to be refrigerated before it's opened?!
Answers: I thought it had to be kept refrigerated even before it was opened, but every store I've been to, has on the shelf. And they keep reassuring me that it only needs to be refrigerated once it's opened. Is that true?
Many oils should be refrigerated after opening--such as sesame and canola (in fact, olive oil is one of the few that doesn't need to be refrigerated), but flaxseed should be refrigerated before opening. I don't buy flaxseed oil from the shelf. And get it home as quickly as possible. Flax and flax oil is very fragile.
no not if its not open after you open then yes
I do believe that it only needs to be refrigerated once it has been opened.
Although, I have talked to a few people before that have never refrigerated it and it was fine.
I would refrigerate it after you have used it though, because if you find it on the shelf at the store, then it should be alright.
whenever ive purchased it theyv grabbed it cold out of the fridge, better in the fridge i reckon, xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
It should be refrigerated before and after opening.
"Flaxseed oil is especially perishable and should be purchased in opaque bottles that have been kept refrigerated."
If you use it at a reasonable rate it is not required to be in the fridge at all do you put olive oil in the fridge, canola oil, corn oil, flax is a hearty seed that keeps well in a cupboard for years as long as it does not get wet. at the mill it is kept in burlap for months to years before the oils are extracted, it is much like wild rice which are actually the seeds of a reed grass, most product that need refrigeration already have some chemical preservative in them, ever heard of bread from the tombs of egypt that is over a thousand years old and still fit for human consumption?? You worry over nothing
I have flaxseed oil on my muesli every morning and I keep it in the fridge. The instructions on my bottle say store it below 28 degrees (82.5 for those who use fahrenheit) and where I live in North QLD (Australia) it can get up to 34 (93) in the day so definately fridge in that case.
If it is raw it will be refrigerated, like Udo's Choice or Spectrum.
I have not paid attention to the non raw ones. But Raw Cold press Extra Virgin Olive Oil is on the shelf??!!
Interesting observation.
