If you are a vegetarian...?!

Question: and you used to be a meat eater then why did you become vegetarian

Answers: and you used to be a meat eater then why did you become vegetarian

Well I started off as a vegetarian but I think the reason people change is because they realize what happens in the process of making the meat for people to eat.

my family wasn't a big red meat eating type of family to begin with. and as i moved through life, the chicken and pork fell away from my meals and found myself down to chicken once a week. now, no meat or fish and largely no dairy either. it wasn't a conscious decision to eliminate these things for me, they just gradually disappeared. they aren't good for you anyway, and i don't miss them.

Vegetables are good and perfect.Sometimes meat are heavy for any meals. It fulls your body quickly and when it's not cook good it comes in between your teeth. eating meat gives extra smell to the body. I don't eat much of it.I'm more on vegetables but if it's prepared at home there is no otrher alternative than to eat some from it so as not to offend the one who cook it.Vegetables are so light, tastety, healthy and easy to prepare. And most of all they are easily digestible.

I wouldn't like to be killed and eaten, so I think of others and choose not to eat anything that may have been conscious or aware.

In addition to this, it is more than likely that the animals that you're eating were treated beyond horribly.

I know what happens to the animals and what is in the meat and I cannot eat it

I used to eat meat - I loved cheeseburgers and pepperoni pizza in particular until I read "Fast Food Nation" by Eric Schlosser.
It is an expose about the fast food industry, but a couple of the chapters were dedicated to what goes on in factory farms...the ones where the majority of Americans' food is produced. I cried at the description of the torture and pain that the animals experienced during their short lives, en route to the slaughterhouse and then what happens when they arrive.
I was terrified and devastated. Living, breathing creatures....and I had been eating that for SO long. I decided to do more research and found even more disturbing content online (like Meet your Meat on the PETA website). I dug through medical research about the harmful effects that a meat-based diet has on the human body and I swore off meat from that point.
I still ate eggs and dairy until I found out the terrible truths about those as well.
To this day, I'm almost vegan (I still use honey in my tea). It has been a journey;an eye-opening and sometimes painful one, but I'm a much better person because of it.

Hate the thought of eating cute little animals- that was the first reason when i was younger.
But as an adult because i don't agree with the way most animals are kept and killed.

When i was eight, i got a BB gun. I shot a bird, and i saw how much it suffered! I didn't go vegetarian then because at 8 you really can't make your own food. When i was in 9th grade i was watching a TV show, and they were eating balut eggs, it grossed me out, and it reminded me of how i felt when i saw that bird die. So i went vegetarian, and have been for 3 years.

simple.
reports of bad animal husbandry in the meat-processing industry/farming.
the proof that the animal has been raised with no thought to it's comfort/mental or physical health
& being injected with steroids, growth-builders & anti-biotics
THAT WAS 20 YEARS AGO.
2 decades later, nothing's changed.
never will i eat meat again.
not when there are so many other things to eat that don't involve animal abuse.

just to be in, cool fashionable
but when I'm alone i eat lots of chicken and burgers;)

Why do people keep asking this question, its every day ?

I became veggie because of animal welfare issues at age 14.

I visited a pig farm that had an open day because it had won an award for husbandry.

I thought "if thats the BEST way we treat animals, i'm having nothing to do with it " so became veggie instantly.

I arrived at the farm a meat eater, i left as a veggie.

Nothing in the 28 years since has changed my mind, including seeing beef and dairy farms most days because i live in the middle of those farms with my arable farm.

I'm not sentimental about animals, i do not see then as cuddly and cute. But i do KNOW they have thought processes, feelings, moods, know fear and anxiety, a sense of self and community, they feel pain etc.

How do i KNOW ?? because i have 30 chickens, 42 sheep and 12 cows. No-one can claim they have any less characteristics than the animals we call "pets"

They may not show outward signs they are as intelligent as people, but then neither does my sister, and no-one is suggesting we turn her into burgers.

Meat is injected with hormones that are harmful for human consumption (but the FDA won't let you know that). Many diseases that appear later on in life can be traced back to some of these hormones.

I also became a vegetarian because of religious reasons.
Originally, it was not God's intention for us to eat meat. Gen 1:29.

I became a vegetarian because I realized how the animals were treated and how bad meat really is for you...it is truly amazing...

I couldn't bear to eat meat after knowing what the animal went through and knowing what it would to my heart.

When I was little I never really liked to eat meat and the dislike grew stronger as I grew older.
I first became a vegetarian when I saw where my meat came from on a video called "Meet Your Meat". It showed footage of cows and pigs being pulled apart piece by piece while they were still kicking and fighting for their lives and literally slipping in theri own blood and the blood of other cows trying desperately trying to run for their lives to no avail. The memories are imbedded in my brain and will forever be there, haunting me. But people have the horrible ability to say to themselves, "what they dont know dont hurt" or "if I dont see it it doesnt happen", that is just a coward way of gettin gpast your compassion morals. I have always loved animals and being a vegetarian, I have never fealt better in my life, physically and mentally. I am proud to be vegetarian. I live by the words of Mahatma Gandhi:

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated"

I believe that!

i became vegetarian because in this day and age it is simply not necessary for any creature to live a miserable life and die in terror simply in order for me to eat. there is plenty of wonderful, healthy food to be had without anyone having to die over it.

once i realized what goes on in factory farms, i couldn't eat meat anymore without feeling horrible guilt.

I grew up a huge meat eater.. Im from NC and my dad still bbq's pretty much daily. I grew up watching him slaughter animals and it always bothered me but I never really knew I had a choice. I have always loved animals but became very involved with them after watching a very inhumane video on chemical agent tests (im in the Army). The video stuck in my head and pretty much traumatized me. I became very involved with animals and working with a local humane society and one day decided I would no longer eat meat. I quit "cold turkey". I still have the last pack of pork chops in my freezer that I bought before making the change. I have since became vegan and I am in better health than I ever have been. I found a video on peta's website under the tv section "meet your meat" that really has a strong affect on my friends who wonder why I changed. My dad will never change and I think he wants to disown me for my decisions but I couldnt be happier.

I was raised vegan, but I've stayed tat way because:

1. It's natural.
2. It's healthy.
3. I don't fancy eating blood, pus, sh*t, and steroids.
4. THe animals are tortured horrifically.

Well, before I was a vegetarian 4 years ago I didn't like meat to begin with. I learned at a very young age about how animals suffer, never see the sunlight, never do what they should be doing to live. And I know it's all for the sake of a peice of flesh between two buns that clogs your ateries.

I'm healthier than ever, and i've never felt this great :)
