Vegan!?!?!?! please answer this question!!!!?!
I am a vegetarian and thinking about going vegan. My mom understands why I want to go vegan (she is a vegetarian).....I told her today. My dad is o.k. with me wanting to go vegan.
I have some questions:
~ do you know any good cookbooks?
is Veganicom an easy cookbook for a teen?
~ How do go out to eat?
~ Do you still enjoy the food when you go out?
How do you know it is vegan?
Thanx! I know what a vegan can and cannot have.
Also any good vegan websites beside veganoutreach.org and vegansociety.org?
Thanx!!!!!! =]

Veganomicon is really great for a beginning cook. They included whole sections like "how to cook a bean" and "how to cook a grain" and have lots of simple recipes which can be mixed and matched. Isa Chandra Moskowtiz's first cookbook "Vegan with a Vengeance" is absolutely awesome as well. (I had the black bean burgers from Veganomicon with sweet potato fries from VwaV for dinner tonight!) Both have fabulous baked goods as well so you don't have to give up sinful treats.
As for going out, vegetarian restaurants are obviously your best bet. But ethnic cuisine can also serve your needs well. Indian and (good) Chinese restaurants often have several vegan choices. I have had experiences where I did not enjoy the food very much because the only vegan thing on the menu was a salad without dressing, but that's a restaurant I won't choose to go back to. I have also had plenty of experiences where I've gotten great meals that were either vegan straight from the menu or were easily veganizable by leaving something out. If you're polite about your requests, most restaurants will try to accomodate you. You just have to ask about ingredients or cooking methods you're not sure about.
The website for the Moskowitz cookbooks is www.theppk.com. There's recipes there, a forum where you can discuss them (and a ton of other stuff,) and you can stream Isa and Terry's vegan cooking show there, too. Many of the members have vegan cooking blogs where you can find other great recipes as well.
There are some vegan and vegetarian restaurants in the city that I live in. If there are where you live, I'd suggest going there. I don't eat out often, though. You can ask to have your order specially made... but be warned, nobody in the kitchen likes doing that and they may "play" with your food. It's gross, but true.
im a vagen .com
my fave site
Thanks for the sites i've been trying to find diff stuff to eat instead of the usual junk. When I eat outside though I just don't eat stuff that may have animals in it if I don't know then I don't eat it. Because there was alot of stuff that I was eating that I didn't know had animals in it so now I check ingrediants on everything.
Going out to eat is easy!!
I order salads minus the meat & cheese, then have them add avacados, black beans, or nuts and fruit.
Go to the links below for a list of what to eat at major chains.
I believe that Chili's has a black bean burger that is vegan. (I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.)
I live in California and below are my favorites:
Chipotle has the best vegan fast food. :-)
The vegan nutburgers at the Sunflower Drive-in are to die for!!!!!
Raven's in Mendocino has the classiest & best sit down vegan food. It is an amazing resturant.
Well where ever you live discover and have fun with it!
I love eating out!! Everyone that eats out with me agrees that my vegan food tastes & looks better than their meat. :-)
-I don't know. I don't cook.
-I get in my car and drive.
-Of course.
-Because I know what foods are and are not vegan and animal friendly.
Chili's black bean burger isn't vegan.
Book... there are millions out there.
I say, The American Vegetarian Cookbook. It's more than just a cookbook, it's more like a text book. It's really good. Becoming Vegan I heard is a good book.
websites: earthsave.org, pcrm.org, thegardendiet.com, rawfamily.com,
I also recommend One Straw Revolution by Masanobu Fukuoka.
Yeah, I still enjoy the food when I eat out.
I don't eat at fast food or chain restaurants.
I tend to go to Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Korean, hippie, health food, vegetarian, etc. type restaurants. Other countries have been into mainly vegetarian/vegan foods for their whole history, so there's a lot of interesting things to find at the Asian, Indian, Middle Eastern markets too.
