A few questions..?!

Question: I'm a vegetarian, have been for almost a year.
Recently I have found out tht there are animal products in jello, and other gelatin products. Well I was wondering if anyone knows a website to where I can look up what I should and shouldn't eat. I don't wanna eat anything tht was made from killing an animal.

Also, is soy milk what vegans drink? It doesn't come from a cow right?

Also, I heard tht cows and chickens are tortured for their milk and eggs, is tht true?
If yes, are there any special brands tht come from non tortured animals.

Last thing, if it is like, beef flavoring, did it still come from a cow? Or is it artificial? Like ramen noodles, would those be okay for a vegetarian to eat? Or no?

Please help if you can, no rude comments.
Any website links would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Here is a great link, it is about the dairy industry (it is still part of Answers, it's just another user's question about dairy and what is wrong with it):

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

Vegans can drink soy milk, almond milk, rice milk, hemp milk, oat milk - each has its own distinctive taste. I have found that I like almond milk for cereal (it's similar to skim cow's milk in consistency and it's flavor is so mild that it's like skim milk too when eaten with cereal). I like soy milk with coffee and just to drink straight.

I would really encourage you to read labels on food carefully as many foods contain animal products or byproducts. Here is a list of ingredients to watch out for:
http://www.angelfire.com/ar/vegan1/ingre...

I would encourage that you go to the library and take out some books about being vegetarian or vegan and read up about how to balance your meals, how to nourish yourself, sources of protein, iron, calcium etc. that come from plants... it's very lengthy and detailed and difficult to provide everything you need to know here on Answers.

I would really encourage that you keep reading up on it.

Here's a good website:
http://www.vrg.org/index.htm

This is the Vegetarian Resource Group, they have an FAQ area and are very detailed about lots of questions beginners might have concerning their diets.

http://vegetarian.about.com/

soy milk 100%veggie

yup go free range or organic

beef flavoring yup from cows

Dairy and eggs prolong the cruelty, and the animals just end up slaughtered anyway. If I knew then what I know now, I'd have cut out eggs and dairy first.

Another of those "veggie" rants.

No, Soy milk does not come from a cow, it comes from a soybean. lol...
Ramen noodles would be ok with beef flavoring, because scientists made that flavor...
IT is good that cows are milked because, if they weren't there teets would swell.
Yes, I think eggs are, because the mother does not want to give the baby up! Its like automatic abortion!!

1] That's right, soy milk is dairy free (no animals involved). Most vegans drink soy milk, although some prefer other alternatives such as rice mile or almond milk which are also suitable and have slightly different textures/tastes.

2] Cows are like people, they can only produce milk when pregnant or having recently given birth. Milking cows are generally painfully impregnated constantly until they are no longer healthy enough to supply it - they also have very little room to move and often become crippled. Chickens are often kept in overcrowded sheds & pumped with hormones and steroids.

You can get free range eggs, but be aware that as there is no official standard for it to be considered as such, they may not be as cruelty free as they claim to be.

3] You should check the ingredients just in case, but usually flavouring is safe for vegetarians, just like chicken salt doesn't actually contain chicken.

I hope I helped :)

Soy milk is what vegans drink, and no it doesn't come from a cow.

Yes, lots of animals are still treated badly for their eggs and milk. Lots of grocery stores have "cage-free" eggs, or organic cheeses. These are a more cruelty-free way to get your dairy.

Beef flavoring is not vegetarian. Some ramen noodle flavors (like Top Ramen Oriental) are vegetarian. But check the ingredients, different brands use different things.

The caring consumer website should help with finding animal free products. Peta probably has some good advice as well.

It would take too long to answer all your questions. But to answer one. No cows and chickens are not tortured to produce food. Where in the world did you get that idea. Cows are milked on a milking machine and chicken eggs are gathered after they are laid from a chicken coop which is a house for chickens.
