  • I love PETA (People Eating Tasty Animals).

I think they are people with their hearts in the right place, and that's all that matters as far as I'm concerned.

Like most organizations they have some good ideas and some bad ideas. I think some of their tactics are ridiculous, such as desecrating the KFC colonels gravesite etc. but their core message of compassion for animals is a good one. Sadly it gets distorted.

Apparently killing by lethal injection isn't as bad as killing, by other methods, for food.

What cracks me up about many people who are part of PETA is that they show more concern for the plight of animals than they would for a fellow human. Don't get me wrong, promoting ethical treatment for animals is good, but humans should be even higher on that priority list. Case in point: homlessness, poverty, the housing crisis, poor education, child abuse etc.

My bottome line is that if you can shed a tear for abused chickens or whatever, than you can definitely have some empathy for human suffering.

peta used to care about animals, whenever a dog or cat was abused, they would get involved. Now, it's all about corporate manipulation for $$.

People with their heart in the right place but their mind somewhere else. There are a lot of the PETA group that join in because they need the attention not because of their conviction's. No one likes cruelty in any form but some take this to the extreme.

i think PETA started off with a good vision but took so far that it will soon turn into a cult-like group. i think they should get of their high horses and stop condemning people for their personal choices.

PETA has distorted views. i'm a vegan, obviously i care about animal rights BUT i also care about humans. as they do, i'm sure. it's a complicated subject.

well lately I have been thinking that PETA does not do alot to help the aniamls look at all the money they talks In and what they use it on.they could do so much but they don't, most of way they do is have protests agaist every thing which is fine, but please how about some how showing law makers the puppy mills and give the dogs a loving home.

Well, as much as I try not to believe everything I read, this does actually make some sense to me. PETA probably thinks they are doing these animals a favour. They probably think it is better for the animal to be dead than to live in a world where it will most likely be abused, neglected, or just plain improperly cared for. They actually support things like pitbull bans because they feel it would help put an end to the suffering these dogs regularly experience. They also don’t believe in trap-sterilize-release programs for feral cats, thinking it is better for feral cats to be euthanized rather than have them living on the streets.

Before you start with the thumbs down, I’m not saying I agree with it. I think PETA has some nice ideas, but they’re just not realistic, educated, thoroughly thought-out ideas.

i'm not a big fan of them. they make us vegans look bad.

I don't like PETA. Yes, I know how many pets they kill.

They make us veg*ns look awful. They are not ethical themselves.

That website (created by a lobbying group for the meat industry) only presents one side of the issue. Here is the other side:

PETA makes no secret of having to euthanize most of the animals we take in. Although we do not run an adoption facility (we refer most adoptable animals to well-known shelters with a high rate of public traffic), we have managed to place animals in excellent, lifelong homes. For many of the animals we do accept-such as those who are injured, elderly, aggressive, or otherwise unadoptable-we are a "shelter of last resort," offering a humane death to those who would otherwise suffer a slow and painful end.

Unlike "no-kill" shelters, PETA does not refuse animals simply because euthanasia is the only humane option for them. Many of the animals we take in are brought to us because they have been rejected by other facilities. PETA receives calls every week from people who request that we euthanize their animals because they cannot afford to have them euthanized by a vet or because the animals would suffer excessive stress and pain if transported. PETA will not turn its back on these animals simply because they might make our "numbers" look bad.

The best way to save the lives of homeless animals is through spaying and neutering. PETA's mobile spay-and-neuter clinic focuses much of its work in disadvantaged neighborhoods, where we offer free and low-cost surgeries. To date, our clinic has sterilized tens of thousands of animals. With $45, a person could either care for a dog in a "no-kill" shelter for about three days or sterilize one animal, preventing the births of at least eight animals from that animal and her offspring in just one year as well as preventing the births of as many as 67,000 dogs in six years and 420,000 cats in seven years.

The scope of the companion animal overpopulation crisis is truly staggering: Every year, 3 to 4 million of the 6 to 8 million unwanted animals abandoned at animal shelters in the U.S. must be put to death because there are no suitable homes for them. People who are outraged by this deadly epidemic-and we all should be-can easily help by spaying or neutering their animal companions.
