Why ask a veggie or vegan a question about ethics?!

Question: After all to have any ethics that count you have to be able to think about other people and their views. Clearly not what most veggies are cappable of doing. Especially those who set themselves up to be "leaders" of the community after all they are mostly incapable of informed open debate and immediately get up their selves when you comment about "the lifestyle"

that is very judgemental but you are entitled to you views. i am avegetarian and care about people n love everyone.

Why post a stupid question like this in the vegetarian and vegan section? Do you think this is the sort of question we like answering?
You can't generalise like that anyway. I do think about other people and their views, and am able to make decisions based on my own opinions and beliefs. I would never enforce my own opinions and beliefs on anyone, but I will give an honest answer when asked.

Now stop **** stirring and get a life.

This is not a question, but a rant.

I have to partially disagree with your statement. Not all veggies consider themselves as "leaders". I am a 2 yr veggie and I try to influence my friends and family, to help protect animals, not because I think I am suporior to anyone who eats meat or fish. I cannot speak on behalf of every veggie, but I can tell you that there are some of us who respect other peoples ethics. We just try to influence the animal cruelty-free lifestyle any way we can. Meaning, if you are going to eat meat, atleast treat the animal with some kindness, by killind them in a painless way -- if possible -- and treat them like they have feelings aswell.
I don't know what kind of veggies you have incountered, but I am friendly and have family and friends who do eat meat. I respect their choice and they sometimes comdemn me for not eating meat and make fun of me but I don't take it to personally -- unless they call me weak and stuff like that --.

If you want you can talk further with me about this, I have met someone who does eat meat, and she told me about PETA -- an animal rights group, that I wanted to join, but I was encouraged not to, and when I found out about the dirty tastics that some members are involved in, I decided not to join -- :(

I'm still trying to figure out what "and immediately get up their selves" means.

when people like you make these statements, it does not open up good respected conversation, instead it creates a "them against us". which is really not fair to anyone.

Is really only the serious veggies and vegans that know their sh*t.
some epople just are veggie/vegan because they think its cool and people will look up to them for it.

i am a informed vegan, and i dont mind when people comment on my eating, because i know its good for me, good for animals and good for the earth.

You seem bitter. Have you had an argument with someone on here? I agree that there's no excuse for personal attacks. I hope i haven't contributed to your ire.

To address your question though, assuming the motivation behind vegetarianism is animal welfare, and there are a number of others centred on human interests such as the trophic levels argument, a true vegan is motivated by compassion, which applies more to other humans than to most other species, because firstly humans interact socially and therefore distress caused to a human has multiple repercussions and secondly there is more contact with humans than with other animals and they are therefore likely to be our main concern.

This is an interesting question. I went to the Food and cooking section, ethnic section and the other food areas and I did not find 1 vegan/vegetarian person making derogitory comments about meat eaters and what meat eaters should or should not be doing or being critical about their morals but...................people come to this forum posting offensive questions against vegans and vegetarians - get a life.

If a person does or does not have ethics really has nothing to do with if they are vegetarian or vegan.

It does have to do if they have a philosophy dealing with values relating to human conduct, with respect to the rightness and wrongness of certain actions and to the goodness and badness of the motives and ends of such actions.

Point being - some people have morals, some don't - non meat eater and meat eater alike.

Well that's a generalisation if ever I saw one. I've been a veggie for 7 years and take into account the opinions of those who don't agree with me and don't dictate or preach to others as I know everyone is entitled to their opinion. It is the 'militant' ones who shout the loudest whereas those who don't force their views on other (who are the majority) keep quiet.

Well, you can post any question you want and can get all kinds of answers from the informative to the idiotic. If you ask a relatively offensive question, expect to get offensive answers or get the question eleted. Funny that many people think this forum is "theirs" just because it says "V&V" in the tilte and they are vegeheads. You can see some that say "..come here and annoy us.." as if this is their "home" and have more rights than anybody else. Yahoo owns these pages and anybody who claims or thinks otherwise is being ridiculous. Pathetic that the only sane argument that many fad vegheads can make is a thumbs down or a violation report. The more intelligent ones like Maggie or Michael H or lo-mcg or geomaneyes (spelling?), or Thirsty? and even Krister etc are just some of the few that make these pages interesting. The rest like a certain green eyed peacenik are like PETA parrots and just good for a few laughs.

Which ethics would you like to ask them about, if you did you not find them so lacking...?
