Vegetarians ??????!
so my question to you vegetarians is ....what would you have done in this situation? how long have you been a vegetarian ? And did I over react?
Answers: ok so I’ve been vegetarian for like 14 weeks and last week, my dad made spaghetti and he got the sauce in a jar... but he didn’t realize (neither did I) that the sauce had meat in it so when I finally did realize that there was meat in it I was already mostly done. ok so my reaction to this whole thing ......I sat there and started to cry for like 30 minutes, then I went to the bathroom and made myself puke every thing I just ate, ( i never made myself puke before ).

There have been times when I made a mistake, eating green chile on a pizza I didn't know had meat in it. I didn't figure it out until I was done eating my slices, and I got so upset and made a huge deal out of it.
I've eaten rice krispy treats and gummy bears without knowing they were made of gelatin. I've cried a few times.
It's really important to me, and accidentally eating something with meat in it is a terrible feeling. I've never puked though. I can't make myself throw up. but I feel sick and awful for days after.
You did overact a bit. It's better to learn from mistakes. Check the ingredients before eating next time.
I really commend you on your decision to go vegetarian. However, I think you may have over-reacted. It can be really upsetting to find out that something you ate had meat in it. (It's happened to me once or twice) It's an accident, you learn from it and move on. Nicely tell your dad to please check the ingredients on things like that, or better yet, double check them yourself! Making yourself puke is NOT healthy, no matter what.
You are doing the best you can, don't be too harsh on yourself.
I've been a vegetarian for many years, and a vegan for 12 years.
If I unknowingly eat something that isn't vegan, I just remember not to buy or accept that product again, and forget it.
You haven't done anything wrong, don't beat yourself up about it and please, please don't make yourself vomit.
If it happens again, and it probably will, just accept that it did and move on.
Making yourself vomit is never a great thing to do.
You haven't been vege for all that long, and it takes YEARS before you really know what you can and can't eat, without checking labels.
You have done NOTHING wrong, and I bet your Dad feels AWFUL for seeing you so distressed.
Meat, and meat derivitives sneak into some amazing and unlikey things....you WILL get the hang of it, but it will take you ages.
I haven't eaten meat for 17 years, but, once in a blue moon, even I get caught out. When I do, I simply make a mental note not to buy or eat that item again. No big deal - we ALL make the odd mistake. There is a big difference between not noticing one tiny ingredient, 20 items down the list, to knowingly consuming meat.
Please don't make yourself sick. Accept mistakes happen, and go do some research about the odd places meat can be found....!
Good luck =)
Please do not be so hard on yourself. it happens, it was an accident. - Accidents happen. you can move on and it okay.
I have been a life long veggie, but once I accidently ate meat. I was a teenager then. - well, I felt bad for a bit, but then i realise that it was an accident. Its not like you ate the meat knowingly! -
take care
I think forcing yourself to throw up was a bit much... We've all made mistakes, and it's okay to feel upset about it. But it was just a mistake, there's no reason to go THAT far.
How do you not notice there's meat in sauce?
No, you don't cry about it. You learn from your mistakes and move on.
Don't be so hard on yourself. You can't be expected to be perfect, nothing bad is going to happen because you had a speck of meat. Be more careful next time if you wish, but its a silly thing to beat yourself up over. I can understand the anger at breaking the commitment you worked for, hopefully it will get easier.
I am a vegetarian, but I have eaten meat on occasion if I was at someone's house and there was no vegetarian option. In my opinion, its good to be relaxed about it, especially to be respectful of omnivores.
how did you not realize there was meat in the sause??
anyways. keep it up
I have been a vegetarian for 3 years. After a year of being a vegetarian, I had pasta with meat in it. I seriously almost cried. I felt really bad and told myself not to make that mistake ever again. Now, I just ask what I'm about to eat and if there's any meat in it.
Don't make yourself throw up. You didn't do it on purpose. It's not your fault!
I think making yourself was over the top - not a good thing to do.
Don't beat yourself up. Just remember to check labels next time.
Be aware of what you are eating and don't assume.
You just made a mistake. Everyone makes mistakes - if they are honest about it.
i have been a vegetarian for over five months. i would have reacted the same way, but i don't know if i can puke on purpose. i probably would have made a vow and a punishment list for myself. you totally did not over react. i think it is great that you want to be a vegetarian.
can you answer a question for me, my parents keep asking me: Why did you become a vegetation?thank you.
I'm sorry you had that experience. On the night of my college graduation, I went out to dinner with my family and ordered something that was simply described as a bean dish on the menu.... forgot to ask the waitress if it was vegetarian... well, I started eating it, and realized that it had bits of chicken and other meat in it. I felt so badly I actually started crying. Now I'm a lot more careful and make sure to ask if something is vegetarian/vegan when I've never ordered it before. Everyone makes mistakes... see this as a learning experience and try not to be too hard on yourself. Being vegetarian isn't about being "pure" or perfect; it's about doing what we can to reduce animal suffering. Hope you feel better.
I would of pucked too..... I don't think you overreacted.....
Learn from your mistakes and move on.
Don't even think about making yourself puke again unless you are trying to become a total head case.
well DONT blame ur father for it! its nobodys fault so start off saying to urself it was an accident and it will make u feel better!..also u didnt over react at least u got the maet out and that made u feel better so mainly just try to make urself feel better!!
I would have thrown up all over my floor and wrapped barbedwire around my body while i slept, well not really but id want to thats horrible
