Vegetarian and no one supports...?!

Question: Recently I have stopped eating meat. all my life i would only eat certain meats and now within the last few months i stopped ALL!! and no one agrees with my situation or supports me. my dad says im childish (im 20 years old with a daughter) and the majority of my family just thinks its stupid and laugh everytime i say no i don't eat meat!

i let my daughter eat anything she wants. if she wants meat i'll make it for her. i just won't eat it

what can i do to them to make them see i'm serious! how can i show them that this isn't just a "phase" in my life thanks

My dad thought I had lost my mind when I told him I made the decision to be a vegetarian. You'd think parents would be less concerned with their child becoming healthier and be more worried about things like if their child became a satanist, a murderer, or a rapist. lol

I decided to not only make my dad try a little bit of every meat substitute I eat (chicken, beef, bologna, hot dogs, etc.) so that he could at least try it before judging it. He actually liked some of the morning star products and stopped criticizing me.
As for the rest of my family and any other meat eater who thinks I'm crazy, I show them these videos.

Youre awesome for becoming a vegetarian, by the way! :D

You are 20 yrs old ; so why its important for you to have the [benediction of your family ] Theres a reason but you are the only one who can answer it

I've been a vegetarian for two years now...don't listen to people who eat other living things. its disgusting...especially the way the poor animals get treated and killed. Being vegetarian also lowers the risk of some cancers up to 40%. I would say if you want to do this-do it. Dont listen to other people-if they told you to kill an animal would you? they eventually stop making fun of you after a while...i just ignore it and say F off...good luck...hope you make the right decision!!!

I think that if you don't want to eat meat then don't. When I was 16 I had moved out of home and was completely independent and the only person I amswered to is me! I a now much much older and I think really hat it all boils down to is your views and how you want to live your life is completely 100% your business. If you google Vegetarian or vegan meals you will find 1000s of websites so to answer Stephany's posting no its not a fad its a way of eating which is personal and to liken it to bi-sexuality is simply ridiculous and very amusing if not childish! Stephany if you are a chef you would realise that money is money and cater for the vegetarians after all their spending is proffit but not that many chefs tend to understand this!

I would research some sites like Vegan Wolf (veganwolf.com) and the vegetarian society. A vegan and vegetarian diet is very healthy for you. As to what your parents think lets face it the view that meat is necessary and the only protein is a dated pint of view but most people still think that meat is necessary - oh well whatever. Good luck.

All you can do is just wait overtime for them to see that you really did stop eating meat.
Don't bring it up, and if they do then just tell them they can believe whatever they want, but truely you know what you are. Besides it ain't a biggie if they don't believe you or not.

Just keep on being veg. Eventually as the years pass they'll see that it's not just a phase. My parents thought it was a phase too at first... 18 years later, they know it's not ;-)

My family still does that. After all this time, they still think it is just a phase that I'm going through. Every time the topic comes up, they question me and tell me why I SHOULD eat meat. I just tell them to bite me. I am grown, so I make my own decisions.
Honestly, I think time is the only way to convince them. When you never eat meat again, maybe they'll believe it then.

You're 20. Why do you care?

You also shouldn't be letting your daughter eat anything she wants. You're the parent.

i know exactly how u feel except they can actually call me a chid cuz i am one but the best thing to do i say is ignore it, its ur life not theirs, u can also say that the person makin fun of u is childish or sumthin idk im confused 2 but thats wat i would do

You're not a child, you are an adult and a parent, you don't need your family's permission or approval.

When I went vegetarian in 1969 my family thought it was just a phase too.

Perhaps Stephanie C can advise me as to when my trendy experimental time will come to an end? ;)

As a Chef, I find this is a trend with your age group. I compare it to "bi-sexuals" just an experimental time... meat is good, and good for you. Make up your own mind?
