Is it ok to wear uggs that I bought like 3 years before becoming a vegetarian?!

Question: It seems wrong, but when I think about it, it seems like it's right. I'm not going to buy any more uggs, so there really isn't a problem then, right?. I already bought them, and if I didn't wear them, then it would be a waste for the poor sheep to have even died. Am I right? or am I just a hypocrite?

it's all about your personal choice.
some people are fine with it, some people are not.
it's up to you to decide.
personally, i wear things that i bought before i was veg that may have a bit of leather or suede. i think it is wasteful to not use these things anymore. i probably wouldn't wear a leather jacket, because to me that is a little bit more gross, but as i said, it's about personal choice.
as long as you're not buying it now and supporting that industry, i think it is okay.

i think so yes, because you purchased them prior to becoming vegetarian, and just because youre vegetarian now cant bring you back your money or reverse the fact you bought them
you should wear them and get your use out of them ;)

uggs are ugly so i dont even know why you would wear them in the first place. donate them to goodwill or something.

it sounds like you're vegan more than vegetarian. half of me thinks that it's wrong cause you're still supporting leather use but hte other half thinks it's ok as long as you don't purchase any more. it's all up to you. i don't think any other vegetarians would judge you. i'm a vegetarian and i have some friends that are that eat fish still. it's all up to you and how much your conscience will bug you.

It's your choice, but I don't see why not. When I went vegan, I wore and used the few leather things I had until they wore out.

You're not a hypocrite and don't let anyone say you are. A hypocrite pretends to have higher standards than they in fact have. You are being honest.

I'm vegan, but I wear 3 pairs of shoes/boots that I got in high school when I was only a vegetarian. That was a LONG time ago, but 2 pair are Doc Martens, and they last forever. I think it would be a waste for me to get rid of them. You say you're vegetarian, which simply means that you don't eat meat, so there's no problem there. Being vegan, I get a lot of $h!te for donning this cruel footwear. I really don't care. I never eat or buy anything that comes from animals. Back in high school, I lived at home & my parents bought my shoes. So I try to worry about myself, not what other people think. If they have nothing better to do than worry about me, I feel sorry for them. If everyone has to worry about not being the perfect, 100% epitome of whichever lifestyle they choose, then nothing will get better because no one will want to just try and do the little bits that they can. I admire anyone for making any kind of changes, however small they may seem to self-righteous d!ckwad$.

That's up to you. Just be prepared to defend yourself when people call you out on it.

I agree, it would be a waste. But do what makes you comfortable.

Do whatever YOU are comfortable with - don't worry about other people!

it's leather and wool, and most likely the sheep was killed for meat which you won't use, then skinned for the leather,

it's your choice,
(I'm a vegetarian and won't touch leather, but that is my personal choice)

If they are your shoes, you want to wear them, they fit - where is the problem??

If such is an issue - don't buy any more. But to toss them out - seems not only wasteful but a total waste of the life that you are wanting to have compassion for.

My late husband and I rode motorcycles. We both wore leathers for protection (best thing to have to protect from road rash if you go down). There is no way in God's green earth that I will EVER get rid of his old leather jacket. I will keep it more than likely till the day that I die - and then my kids will have to decide what to do with it after I am gone.

Such doesn't make one a hypocrite - just means that there are certain things that you are not going to give up - that it has no bearing on current choices within your life - just something that you still have before certain changes happened.

Give yourself a break!

You bought them long before you went veg. Granted, it's tiresome explaining that you've had these leather/wool things since before you went veg, but anyone who gives you grief over wearing it isn't worth thinking about. But you certainly wouldn't be alone--some vegans do wear leather/wool they bought before they went veg until it wears out and then replace it with animal friendly gear.

If wearing them bothers you greatly, you can always donate them to a local shelter.

Don't try to follow a label, if it seems wrong, don't wear it lol

I've worried about this too. I had old belts that I got before I decided to stop wearing leather (I am a vegetarian, not vegan, but when I really started to pay attention to what leather really is, I stopped buying it). I stopped wearing them and they just hung in my closet for years. By the time I finally decided to give them away, they were stiff and really dusty...not usable by anyone. I should have given them away right away or worn them anyway. My mom bought me a wool coat a couple of years before she died. I will wear that coat until it can't be worn anymore because it was a gift of love. I won't give it away, and I won't let it just sit in my closet collecting dust. Whatever you decide to do, don't let the Uggs just sit in your closet. Make your decision, and stick to it. If someone gives you grief for wearing them, ask them what they've done lately to save an animal. I don't think you're a hypocrite.
