Will DISEASES like MAD COW DISEASE and BIRD FLU drive meat eaters to embrace VEGETARIANISM?!

Question: Sooner or later?

Answers: Sooner or later?

It already has. I know at least one person who has given up meat for fear of foodborne illnesses. Many people would prefer not to consider whether there's a danger there or not, but my acquaintance cannot possibly be the only one scared into vegetarianism. In fact Howard Lyman, a former cattle rancher, became vegan in part due to his knowledge of the lacking nature of livestock inspections (ugly practices within the industry and health concerns contributed as well) and has written about it in his book, "Mad Cowboy."

Edit to add: vegetarians never live past 40? Oh dear, tell that to my 60 year old vegetarian boss who hasn't eaten meat in 38 years... thanks for the laugh!

Sooner, for their and the animal's sake. However, ignorance is bliss.... :-)

I doubt it with most people. I know so many meat eaters that just don't care if they get a disease from meat...especially something like mad cow or bird flu.

I wish it would work though.

Mad Cow disease is only found in extremely rare cases (The media wants to scare people)
And the Bird Flu will never have time to spread, and there really hasn't been any cases in a few months. (Regular flu kills 6,000 people a year, and bird Flu has killed about 3)

Not alot will be switching to vegetables over this, and they shouldn't. Vegeterianism is bad for you, most vegetarians never live over 40 years old.

We're designed to eat meat, look at your canines on your upper jaw. Just like wolves, and bears.

Most likely not because those aren't the only types of meat eaten like deer/elk, alligator and other lizards, and insects as well. But those diseases aren't too large to be taken care of and everyone has a different system of care.

Smart ones

that's ridiculous. did AIDS and herpes stop people from having sex and become celibate? did birth defects stop people from having children? do car accidents stop people from driving cars? did the e coli contaminated celery make people stop eating vegetables? you need to think again...
