Can any body suggest the best brand Sesame/Til/Gingelly Oil to me?!
Answers: In the Indian stores in the U.S., they only carry the Idhayam brand in Til oil. This is pretty OK in terms of a mellow oil, light on the flavor though. In American stores, you can get a wider range in brands from light to dark sesame oil, toasted (usually dark) and untoasted/ raw (usually light). Spectrum carries organic as well as regular sesame oils. They carry a full line of edible oils and are very good. Then there's Kadoya, a Japanese brand that's really flavorful. There are others -- gourmet stores such Whole Foods carry their own label too, can't think of more right now...When I was growing up in India there was a Samalkot brand (Samalkot being a milling center for Sesame oil in AP) that was famous for it very flavorful, raw Til/Gingelly oil. It came in tins or you could buy it in bulk by the litre. Don't know if they still make this brand in India.
