Do you like veggie burgers? Or any other non-meat burgers?!

Question: What do you think about them? One of my friends said that they taste bad.
Do they taste anything like meat? Or completely like vegetables? I've never tried one, and I think that my school does or did have them, but I don't want to waste money on something that doesn't taste good.

It depends. Some are made to taste like meat, others are clearly just veggies.

I really love the Morning Star Farms Spicy Black Bean and Corn variety. The Grillers (also from Morning star) taste closest to a hamburger, but they are much drier and have a distinct mushroom flavor. They work well as a substitute for ground beef in things like spaghetti, but I don't care much for them as a "burger" b/c they just don't taste THAT close.

Some of the other Morning Star products are also excellent. Their breakfast entrees are GREAT, and do taste authentic (except the bacon, which has nice flavor, but doesn't hold a candle to the real thing), and their corn dogs are out of this world delicious (and wayyy better for you than the real thing)!

I'm not a vegetarian, but was for 5 years. I still enjoy many of the vegetarian meat substitutes when I want something lower in fat. Most do taste pretty good.

Hope that helps!

i think they taste great! some have more of a meaty flavor, some are made with more whole veg, so they obviously don't taste as much like meat.
if you're expecting to eat a juicy hamburger, then you're probably going to be disappointed. they don't taste the same but i think they are absolutely delicious.
i find the darker they are in color, the more they will taste like meat.
you should try them!

*edit*
also, you didn't say if you're vegetarian or vegan or just curious about veggie burgers. if you are vegan, you should check labels on anything you buy. many of morningstar products are not vegan, but because they're veggie burgers, people don't check. a lot of them contain milk proteins or egg.

What someone else says about them may not be the same as what you think of them yourself.
Some are really, really good, others taste like cardboard!
I'm afraid, in this life, you really have to try new things yourself, to decide what YOU like!
Don't think of it as 'wasting' your money, think of it as using your money to try a new experience!

you really have to try them all--the only ones that i really like are the MorningStar brand in the green box. They make a variety of them and only one is supposed to taste like meat. They are more expensive than the other ones on the market but they taste the best as far as I am concerned. The Boca ones just are too crumbly or something. I also like to make "burgers" with brown rice and portabello mushrooms.

they have a guilt free menu at chiles and they have the best black bean burger!!!!!!! And portabello mushrooms make a good substitute for meat

there are several types of veggie burger...Burger King has a good one ...Go try it.
Also there are toe fu burgers. Turkey burgers and you can also have a Portabella Mushroom burger

OH, MY, GOSH! I'm addicted to MorningStarFarms! I'm a vegetarian, and they have the BEST non-meat stuff. They also have vegetarian/vegan stuff, and that's like the best of both worlds to me! And they taste...to me? WAY better than meat! And you should try them at your school, because they're really good.

P.S. Your friend's taste buds have got to be wacked.

Depends on what type of veggie burger it is. Some I've eaten were very good, and some weren't that good at all. They never do taste exactly like hamburger though. Surprisingly, they come somewhat close.

They are fantastic!! But it does depend on the quality of the burger, I wouldn't go buying them from the service station for instince, I'm not sure what your school's tuckshop is like but what the heck it's somthing new, I think definatly try it!

they are OK but nothing will ever replace a good old fashioned meat patty covered in mustard and ketchup and pickles and tomatoes and lettuce and the buns and that's the truth!

They taste nothing like meat, they aren't meat though, so what are you to expect? There a mixture of vegetables, soy, and flavoring. If your a meat eater, chances are you aren't going to like them because your expecting meat. They don't taste completely like vegetables. They're pretty good, but you don't really remember the taste of meat when you go veg. Other non-meat burgers (ex. Portobello mushroom burgers ) taste good, but not like meat. I like morning star veggie burgers and chicken better than boca. Try it.

Boca burgers are my favorite veggie burgers.
They don't taste exactly like meat, but they do not taste like veggies either.
They are very good, you should try one!

It really depends on the brand... some are good and some aren't, some taste similar to meat and some taste like vegetables. I love the ones at Johnny Rockets.

i love boca cheese burgers!
they taste amazing with black summer truffle salt!

umm and morning star burgers are good too.

heres a list of the good brands:
boca burgers,
morning star burgers,
and whole foods vegie burgers.

vegie burgers taste like vegies(duh)
and the other ones have no real taste you have to add things to give them taste.

I'm a vegetarian but still haven't found a veggie burger that I particularly like. Boca burgers are alright but they have a weird texture in my opinion. One day I'm going to try cooking one in a sauce pan so it might better replicate a fresh grilled texture,as opposed to a freshly microwaved one. Ironically I let my non vegetarian friend try some when she came over my house and she really liked them. She even made her parents start buying them.

On the other hand I really like fake chicken patties. I've tried both morning star and boca and they are both fabulous. If I gave up vegetarianism tomorrow (not that I'm planning to) I swear I'd still eat these things. They're better than any chicken patty I've ever eaten.

They are the best!!!
I had great ones in India...
