How many grams of protein do you need a day and what are some ways to get protein?!
Answers: I'm a vegetarian and I don't like meat and I love animals but my mom is always afraid im not getting enough protein. I drink protein drinks which have like 15g....veggie burgers which have 17g.....any ideas? I want strong bones so I can be a ninja lol jk
Don't just eat to have protein, eat since it is a joy....find things you like to eat
you need about 40 g protein a day
* have whole grain breads
* nuts
* legumes
* and supplement these with sprouts and avocadoes, green soybeans, tofu, paneer (if you like milk)
** one of those little boxes of soy milk is 11g of protein.... not bad !!
* veggie burgers are fine / have some falafel ....it is like little round veggie burgers, and if you stuff them into a whole wheat pita (more protein) you can stuff in tomato and lettuce and cucumber and finish it off with some tahini sauce (sesame)
** have some trail mix, it is delicious = get it in the health food store or in the supermkt in the whole foods section
** have granola bars or buy some granola and have it with soy milk and bananas ...
** if you make a nice sandwich of tofu or cheese on whole grain bread and put slices of tomato and a little raw onion and some alfalfa sprouts .... and make it with 2 slices of 70-grain bread, you will have a very nice lunch ... add some avocado slices ...
** a handful of toasted or raw nuts is very good protein
** make your own homemade bread and put in honey, toasted wheat germ, milk powder... it is delicious. Have it toasted with some jam. Put dried fruits in it, too, and sweet spices.
You can get all sorts of good things these days..... fig bar cookies in the health food store are really good ....and you can get some Tiger's Milk Bars ...those are good!
Do not worry .... you will get enough protein.

Well, if you eat fish, salmon burgers have tons of protein. Also, try soybeans, nuts, and soymilk.
well you need to get 46 grams of protein a day. so that should give a guideline for what you need. but you need to make sure you get enough fiber also bout 20 grams worth because too much protein and not enough fiber will clog you up.
You need about 0.8 grams of protein for every kg that you weigh, or 0.36 grams per lb. Vegetarians need about 1g of protein per kg, which is about 10% of your intake.

Take your weight in pounds and multiply by 0.36. That figure includes a safety margin so you can get by just fine on less.
Vegetarian sources of protein include soybeans and soy foods (tofu, tempeh, tvp, edamame, faux meats,) beans and other legumes (lentils, peas, peanuts, chickpeas,) grains, nuts and seeds, fruits and vegetables, mushrooms, and eggs and dairy products if you still eat those.
Most Americans, especially meat eaters, get far more protein than they need and too much is not at all healthy. I've included a link to the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and their flier on The Protein Myth. It might help your mom to understand that she likely doesn't need to worry about your protein intake - as long as you're eating enough calories and aren't trying to live on junk food, you're undoubtedly getting plenty.
