Avoiding meat without losing weight.?!
Answers: I want to cut way back on meat. Not become a full vegetarian just cut back. A while back I went vegetarian. I lost about 10 lbs. This worried me because I was 5'1 and 100 lbs in the first place so losing the weight was really bad. I want some tips on how to remain a healthy weight while eating practically no meat.
Unless most of your diet is meat based, it really shouldn't be a problem.
My suggestion would be to make sure that you eat the many types of beans that are out there that are full of protein as well as the humble potato that is also very good for you.
Since you seem to have a problem in this area, I would also suggest eating things like pastas - which are good for you and most def. will keep you from losing weight.
I know that this is not going to be a popular comment on here - but it is indeed good and smart advice - talk to your doctor. They already know about your physical well being and know where you are at and can refer you to a nutritionist to help you with a diet that fits your needs.
Replace meat with another protein, such as soy products, tofu, etc. There are alot of meat subsitution foods out there!
I have been a vegetarian for my whole life (I've never had meat before) and I have a normal weight as everyone else. Just replace meat, and you should stay healthy.
Eat whole grain breads, rice, and pastas. Eat your fruits and vegetables. Eat healthy fats like all nuts. You can eat some fish on the side (some vegetarians eat fish).
Eat full course meals if you want to maintain your weight. It depends on what you are eating that may be causing you to lose weight.
Keep meat in your diet. It's a wholesome source of protein, and you need protein to be healthy. If you want to cut back on meat and not lose weight.. eat in porportions.
If you are cutting back and not cutting out completely simply because you want to still keep some weight on, you can do that while still eating a completely veg diet. Try eating nuts, beans, whole grains, and soy products.
If you're cutting back just because you want to eat a little less meat, or other reasons, well actually I still suggest the same thing I guess :)
If you eat more carbohydrates and sugars, you won't lose weight.
More carbohydrates: grains (rice, cous cous, barley, oats, etc.), pasta, potatoes.
Complex carbohydrates (whole grains, e.g., brown rice) are better/healthier than regular carbohydrates and sugars.
In other words you want to be a semi vegetarian correct? Eating meat just occasionally!
I didn't lose weight becoming a vegetarian! Only those that start poorly will lose weight when becoming a vegetarian! If you eat properly as vegetarian or semi vegetarian you won't lose weight in fact you might gain weight! I gained weight!
I disagree with Erin... stay away from soy products because they will put your thyroid flat on its back... make you tired and fat. It took me over a year to recover after switching to soy products to replace meats.
If you need a good protein and fat source and boost of energy, switch to RAW NUTS and raw nut butters. A handfull of raw pecans, almonds, filberts, brazil nuts, macadamias, etc. make an excellent energy source any time. <FYI: Peanuts and cashews are not nuts.> If they are cooked, they are dead and you cannot benefit from them.
Another good protein source is raw green veggies. Think spinach salad, with avocado slices and some pecan pieces and a nice sesame tahini dressing. Hard-core nutrition!
Bananas are a mainstay for both fat and sugar energy.
replace meat with imitation meat.. it's healthier, but it WON'T make you lose weight.. trust me!!
