Tips of becoming a vegetarian?!

Question: OK, so I've fifteen-years-old and, naturally, still living at home. For the past year or so, I have thought about becoming a vegetarian. The idea of meat doesn't exactly gross me out, unless I think about what I'm eating, I just think it would be healthier, and certainly a habit I'd like to have. So my question is, is how do I go about this? My dad would probably just laugh and my mom would say 'go for it', but everyone else in my family is big on meat. So what should I do, aside from trying not to eat meat? Is there anything I can do that will help me not want to eat meat sometimes?

you were raised on meat so if it doesn't gross you out.... i don't think the purpose of becoming a vegetarian is strong enough in you.

you should research more on why others have become vegetarians.

look at how animals are mistreated. that always makes me shy away from meat.

check out PETA's site on the internet.

but remember meat gives you a lot of protein, so i little meat is important for a healthy diet!

me personally, i get grossed out by cold sandwhich meats a lot of the time.

change slowly, so ur body can adjust

Stop shaving your legs. Stop using deodorant. No makeup. The vegetarian thing should come naturally after that.

slowly stay away from the meat

maybe try to stop eating red meat and pork first, be careful getting rid of chicken and fish and all of these together, you have to have a good source of protien coming in.

my family is big on eating meat and i became a vegetarian when i was 11, im 19 now. alot of meals you can just leave the meat out of, like hamburger helper, i make it without the meat. i never had the problem of resisting eating meat, it never really appealed to me, but just have self control and remind urself that its better for you and the animals :) if your family laughs at you, just ignore it. some people just dont understand the lifestyle, so just respect that but also ask them to respect yours.

Try a Veggie Burger (soy burger) they are really good so youll like them and stop eating regular burgers!! The best kind you can buy at Wal-Mart the brand is Boca Burgers and they are only like $3.29 for like six!! Try them!

Alot of people think it's healthier but infact its quite the opposite. Scientists have done many studies on people that are vegetarians & find out that after years of this diet style, they get wacked in the head. I know, that may sound like I'm makin a joke but I'm serious. So, at least try to eat chicken, if you're not a big meat eater.

eat less and less meats on every meal....

stop eating meat....

are you sure you want to be a veggie or is it just 1 of those teen fashion things?
cook a pound of bacon and see if you can resist...
if you can, your a veggie if not enjoy your bacon sarnie....

You have to make sure that you're getting enough protein. Beans are a good source. Also take multivitamins to make sure you're getting all your minerals. If you have urges to eat meat just get stuff like tofurkey, veggie patties and tofu dogs. They taste pretty much the same and give the illusion to anyone passing by that you are an all american meat lover.

Meat isn't unhealthy, so you shouldn't deny yourself of it just because you think it's going to be heathier for you. Unless you have strict reasons for becoming a vegetarian, you don't need to be strict on yourself. You seem to think that you have to be a strict vegetarian, but what's the point in that if it makes you unhappy? Do whatever suits you. If that means eating veggies most of the time, and meat, say, once a week? Then that's fine.

Ask your parents to help by subsituting meat in your or the families meals for alternatives. If that's not possible, ask them to buy more vegetarian groceries, so you can make your own meals.

I have been a vegetarian for18 years. I am not sure if there is anything that can make you not want meat if you do want it. But there are a lot of good meat analogs (meat subs or "fake meat") out there that can help satisfy you. Boca and morning star farms are both good products.I started by giving up red meat, then chicken and finally seafood. especially where you are young you need to make sure you eat right. so, if you do this. try eating dried beans and the "fake meat" products for protein. if you go vegan, consider a multivitamin that has calcium. vitamin B12 and iron is a concern for vegetarians too but a lot of products fortify w/ this. eat healthy lots of veggies(esp dark green and orange) and fruits. also combine grains and dairy and whole grains and dried beans to get your essential amino acids.

good luck. there is a lot of info out there for vegetarian diets.

Try buying a book about being veg-go, I believe one become a better one, if we educate on the issue.

I am no longer a vegetarian, but was for many years. I had a few false starts getting into it--not because I craved meat but because I'd get into iit too abruptly and after a week would feel very ill and then go back to my usual diet. I then decided to gradually remove meat from my diet over the course of many weeks (instead of having meat everyday, it would be every other, then once every few days, then once a week, etc.) If you become completely vegetarian, though, you will then often feel bloated and have indigestion that lasts for days if you do happen to have meat. You might also gain weight from a mainly vegetarian diet. I gained about 15 to 20 pounds (and I was a yoga instructor of a very aerobic and calisthenic form of yoga at the time).

Although the idea of meat eating is violent and repugnant when you really think about it, still the human body usually works better if it has a little bit of animal protein in it--a Little bit. We don't need to eat meat at every meal. A serving of meat or fish a few times a week--or a few times a month--is probably what you should aim for.

Being a vegetarian is usually healthier and a lot of dishes are very good. Check out a few recipe videos here:

These are vegan dishes, but you get the idea.

eat morning star fake chicken ect. it tastes s0000000000000 real!

i am a veg. and trust me at first i was skeptical about the whole thing but trust me u get used to it and stop wanting meat after you realize all the good things it is doing to your body to be more healthy. So i say give it a shot it cant hurt. and before you go 4 it find a real reason you are doin it so youb can explain it to your family and if the love you they shood understand...so HAVE FUN!:)
