Do vegetarians eat fish?!
Answers: I know that vegetarians don't eat meat (obviously), but what about fish, shrimp, oysters, etc.? Oh, and i'm asking about vegetarians, not vegans. Thanks!
No, but popular variations of vegetarianism are known to eat fish, creating the confusion that you are experiencing. Some refer to these diets as "pescetarian" or "pesco vegetarian."
If you are asking because you know someone who calls themselves vegetarian and you dont know if fish is appropriate for them, it is best to err on the side of caution and assume that they do not eat fish, or ask them what they do or do not eat, this goes for egg and milk as well.
If you are asking because you are becoming or considering becoming a vegetarian i suggest you research the pluses and minus of eating some fish in a vegetarian diet for health research how we get our fish, how you get different types of fish, and make a decision for yourself that fits your own ethics in regard to fish.
No, vegetarians do not eat any animal flesh, that includes fish.
True vegetarians do not eat animal flesh of any kind.
true vegitarians do not eat any form of animal (including fish)
No, vegetarians do not eat fish or seafood. Fish and seafood are considered to be flesh food even though they are not on-land animals. Some people call themselves pesco-vegetarians meaning they eat a vegetarian diet except for the addition of fish.
I don't think that you should call yourself a vegetarian if you eat fish.
pescatarians eat fish only and no other meat.
no, us vegetarians do NOT EAT FISH. In general, we don't eat any meat, in general, we don't eat any flesh, even if it is fish. many also dont even eat eggs, but im bad and i occasionally eat eggs. so no vegetarian do not eat fish
no but there are pescotarians that do not eat meat but eat dairy eggs and seafood
No, vegetarian's do not eat fish. By definition a vegetarian is a person who does not eat or does not believe in eating meat, fish, fowl, or, in some cases, any food derived from animals, as eggs or cheese, but subsists on vegetables, fruits, nuts, grain, etc.(1)
There are quite a few people that call themselves vegetarian and eat fish, but these people are mistaken. A person can call themselves anything, however it doesn't make it true. Some people use the term pescaterian, but this is, at most a form of the omnivore diet.
There are any kinds of vegetarians. The most extreme vegetarian/vegan would be the fruitatarian. Fruitatarians only it pulses, vegetables, and fruit. Thy do not eat the actual plant, but the fruit of the plant. The demi-vegetarians eat seafood, pulses, fruit, vegetables, dairy, etc. Demi-vegetarians are actually not real vegetarians.
Look at this site for different inds if vegetarians.

No because vegetarian means you truly only eat vegetation and nothing else that is from an animal some do consider it vegetarian but really it is just being pescatarian because sea food no matter what is still meat.
Fish are still meat
As a rule of thumb it it has a face vegetarians don't eat it.
Meat is flesh from an animal. Fish are animals. Fish is meat. Vegetarians don't eat meat, which includes fish.
Some people who erroneously claim to be vegetarians eat fish, but they are not vegetarians.
I never get tired of answering this question and as always I say NO, vegetarians DO NOT eat fish!
Nope. No animal flesh or products from animal slaughter for the vegetarians:

Fish is meat so therefore no.
This question just keeps popping up every couple of days like clockwork.
NO, vegetarians do not eat fish. Anyone who calls themselves a vegetarian, but still eats fish or seafood, is not really a vegetarian. Fish are still animals, they have skin, muscle tissue, a central nervous system and feel can pain. They are meat.
Chickens are called "poultry" but that doesn't mean they aren't meat.
They wouldn't be vegetarian if they did.
No, vegetarians exclude all flesh from their diet, including fish. However, pescetarians exclude only poultry, pork and beef, and still eat fish.

no, a true vegetarian will not eat anything that once was a living animal, including any type of fish. :)
Real vegetarians don't eat any kind of animal. Fish, shrimp and oysters are animals.
NO! sea creatures are still considered to be meat. why? because they're made of flesh. please use common sense.
vegetarians don't eat any kind of meat, no matter how big or small the animal is.
As everyone else keeps answering, no. By definition vegetarians do not eat fish. I think that this whole "vegetarian but I eat fish" thing came from the Catholic Church and it's stance on meat-eating during the season of Lent. During Lent, on Friday Catholics are supposed to abstain from meat. However, the Church says that you may eat fish/seafood on Fridays. Thus, the popular misconception that when you say you don't eat meat it doesn't include fish.
some do some are very strict with what they eat.... i am a vegetarian and i do eat see food but no type of red meat or chicken
yes some do
Some do, some don't. As you can tell from the previous answers, most in this forum do not. It's a personal choice- no rule book.
