Cooking tempeh question?!

Question: I have never cooked tempeh before and thought I would give it a try. I want to make a curry/coconut dish and want to make sure it will be delicious. These are my thoughts for a recipe and would love any suggestions. Thank you!

saute garlic and shallot in peanut oil
add curry to coconut milk and heat
now for the tempeh-should i fry it in vegetable oil or steam it in the coconut milk? any other suggestion?
I then plan to serve it over jasmine rice.

Some people steam their tempeh to soften it a bit, but I'm lazy, so I don't. Lightlife's Flax Tempeh is pretty soft and takes flavors fairly well. The flax is good for omega 3s.

I would probably saute the tempeh first and then add the garlic and shallot. Then you can add the curry and coconut milk and stir untl the tempeh pieces are coated and the sauce is blended and thickened. I also think adding yellow raisins and/or nuts might jazz it up a bit.

For a side dish, lightly steam some spinach or greens and serve.

I like to sautee tempeh because I like the crunch that gives it. I've never tried steaming it...it MAY fall apart (since I haven't done it, I'm not sure).

I would cook it in oil.

season the tempeh with the same curry blend and fry it in sesame oil (if you have it) or veg oil. It will give a much more appetizing texture than if steamed.

A family favorite here is the tempeh rueben
brush tempeh with oil
broil until golden brown
place on toasted rye bread, top with saurkraut and swiss cheese broil until cheese melts...It is sooo yummy! (if you eat cheese that is)
