How easy is it to get by as a vegetarian in Iceland?!
Answers: I don't eat fish. Dairy is ok.
i am vegetarian in iceland and it is easy to get by there are some 3-5 vegetarian only restaurants but there are lot of restaurants that have something for vegetarians on the menu
Why wouldn't it be just as easy wherever we are living?
Its a fishy diet, no doubt.
I know someone from the Faroes and all his relatives come from Iceland - they are all heavy fish eaters.
I'm sure you would survive, but don't expect any veggie resturants, menu options or labelled food.
Frankly, I think it would be difficult because of the culture and environment. Simply not enough arable lands in Iceland to make any USA type commercial crop venture lucrative or even viable. Which is probably why the culture moved more towards fish and meat eating to begin with.. Threre might be some imported items but expect these to cost more than in other European countries. As Michael H said, seriously doubt there would be too many options in restaurants and locally manufactured food items
It's a lot easier than it used to be. Here is a list of some places that sell vegetarian food in Reykjavik - http://www.veggieheaven.com/europe/icela... :-)
Probably just about as difficult as it is here in Canada. Not very. Besides, they have lots of steam to heat greenhouses there at a very low cost.
Probably just as easy or difficult as anywhere else. Here's a link for you, I hope you find it useful. It's a list of vegetarian restaurants and food stores in Iceland:

Good luck!
