Kefir made with powder starter. Reuse?!

Question: Can you culture a new batch with kefir made with powder versus grains? I bought some powder starter and it worked well to make kefir, though I know the grains produce a much higher quality formula, and I want to culture the new batch using this... Or do I need to open a new packet of the powder each time I make some?

It will die after a few batches.
I can usually make about 3 or 4 transfers before
kefir production stops. I am currently trying to
find some grains locally.

What?!?!

I only know about culturing Kefir with the grains. Why not give it a try with the powder and see what happens? Otherwise maybe there's a phone number on the powder packets that you can call to ask. I love Kefir!
