Does Tofu taste good? How would you prepare it?!
You can do anything you want with tofu!
It takes on the flavor of whatever it's exposed to.
You can alter the texture by gently pressing the liquids from it, then freezing it.
You can alter the taste with various marinades.
You can put it into a smoothie, although I don't because it drastically changes the texture. I do use soy milk in my smoothies, with berries, to have a creamy smoothie.
Here's what I usually do with tofu:
oil the pan, slice up firm tofu and add to the pan (I have a teflon pan, if you don't you should pay careful attention that the tofu doesn't stick. On a low/medium heat, I add onions first, then garlic, turning the tofu over at this point. I add a little peanut butter, some soy sauce, lime juice, sesame seeds, ginger, chili powder, black pepper, you can get creative here!! I turn the tofu again, and toss cilantro & scallions over it. I often eat this over salad with Annie's Goddess Dressing, or a homemade dressing similar to that.
I also sometimes steam broccoli, carrots, bell pepper, etc, and boil up some rice noodles, and toss that with the peanut sauce tofu (adding a little unsweetened soy milk to make it more sauce-like).
I used to make tofu-scramble with various spices and turmeric, scrambling soft tofu up in the pan, and adding veggies of choice, then roll up in a tortilla wrap, dip in salsa! YUM!
Tonight I'm going to make a chocolate (vegan) cheesecake for my boyfriend using tofu, and tofutti (better than cream cheese!) cacao powder & agave, blended up in a graham cracker crust.
AND if you don't want to cook with it right away, you can buy flavored tofu at the store that's ready to eat. It will save money if you buy it plain and make it taste the way you want it to.
Good luck!
Answers: I think tofu tastes good if it's well-prepared. I would never recommend buying plain tofu and eating it out of the package, unless you know you like it already.

Tofu really does not have any taste it will take on a taste of whatever you put it with or put it in.
I don't think tofu has much flavor on its own. It takes on the flavor of what it has been cooked with. There are a ton of tofu recipes on allrecipes.com

Tofu can be great as long as you are using it to boost the flavor of other foods. Lot's of people like it just by itself, but I like it in a good veggie stir fry. I use a variety of sauces and it is great stuff. It can be eaten as it is or cooked right along with the dish. It is very versatile stuff.
Good luck and good eats!
Tofu itself really doesn't have a flavor. It will usually absorb the flavors of what it is cooked with. I like it in miso soup with wakame seaweed and small shrimps.
I will also put it in with steamed vegetables with a light sauce.
I love tofu its very versatile and good for you, Tofu generally dosent have much of a flavor at all you can buy already seasoned and flavored types or plain and cook it with whatever you want. It takes on the flavor of whatever it is cooked with. I cant really tell you how to cook it because there are sooo many different ways but here is a site with some great tips: http://groups.msn.com/VegetarianSOULFOOD...
My fave is Tufo pad thai it so yummy!
I love tofu! It's versatile, it doesn't need to be refrigerated until you open it if it's in those aseptic packages, and it comes in different levels of firmness depending on what you're trying to do. If I had to come up with a comparison, I'd say it tastes KIND OF like egg whites by itself - but I don't like to eat egg whites, and enjoy eating tofu.
You can put it in miso soup, stir fry it, put it in curries..there's a really soft kind you can put in smoothies. I work at a Chinese place, and sometimes they pickle it. There are whole books about different ways to eat tofu. Yum!

I get the flavored kind, almond silk, and I put it in my smoothies every morning, with yogurt, buttermilk and fruit. I have cut up plain extra firm tofu into cubes, and shake-n-bake it like chicken nuggets...that was OK.
If I had to say it tasted like something, I’d say it tasted like unbaked bread dough – mostly flavourless, but with a hint of a soft, floury kind of taste.
I think it is very good cubed and cooked in stirfrys. Just use any recipe where you would use meat, and just use tofu instead. It’s also good cut up and cooked with tomato sauce and served over pasta. You can cut it up and toss it into a salad. I know a woman who used to just eat it as is with orange slices. The possibilities are endless!
Make sure you buy the firm or extra firm type for cooking meals. The silken type is best used for smoothies and desserts – opening up still more possibilities!
I marinate Extra Firm Tofu in a soy sauce dressing for 10-15 minutes and then sautee it until 2 sides are golden brown. I then drain it on a paper towel and add it to whatever Asian dishes I'm making.
just plain tofu is very plain. It hardly has a taste at all. That's why it's so great for cooking. Cut it into cubes and add to a tomato sauce over pasta, add to stir- fry, make a tofu burger, marinade and add to a salad, puree it and make a dessert, or add to a soup. As you can see, there are endless possiblilities.
Has no taste....there is a great recipe in Sandra Cobalt's book that includes tofu. It includes grated carrots, grated zucchini with tofu mixed in and eggs. Wholewheat flour (or corn flour), olive oil, LSA (linseed, sunflower & Almond seeds ground), a squeezed lemon ......and flavour with pepper/salt/basil
Mix well and put in the oven to bake .... it is delicious trust me.
