How come I went back to eating meat again?!
Has this ever happen to anyone, or is their a way to live with this guilt?
Answers: I was a vegan for 2 years, an even educated myself into the way the animals ttreated and are killed and all the hormones that are pumped into the animals and even on the enviormental dangers that animals bred for meat give in to the ecology. But a month and a half ago I ate organic beef and liked the taste of it, now I eat that beef about once every week. I thought I'd never go back to eating meat, but I just don't know what went wrong, I thought I was done with meat but got hooked again.

Don't fell guilty, you're behaving as nature intended. Vegetarianism is abnormal and unsustainable.

why soy/tofu is bad for you
A lot of people switch between the two! Want a famous example? Drew Barrymore. She used to be strictly vegetarian but a recent interview said she went back to eating meat.....but wanted to go vegetarian again. So you are not alone!! I would google vegetarianism and see what comes up.
You have free will, nobody was forcing you to be vegan. You have the freedom to eat what you want. If you want to eat meat again go ahead, just don't call yourself vegan any longer.
Well if it is truly organic and the animal was not treated poorly, then I don't really see a problem with it. Not being vegan or vegetarian doesn't make you a bad person. I'm vegetarian and we only purchase local eggs, and milk that comes from cows not treated with hormones. I could never go back to eating meat - the guilt is too much. But if this is what's right for you, then that's ok and you shouldn't feel bad about it as long as you are educated about where the meat comes from. Good luck.
This happens often, don't feel guilty. It sounds to me like you really care about those animals and that is wonderful. I'm a big animal advocate myself, although I do eat meat. I don't agree with the way animals are treated and over-produced and induced and every other unjust thing done to them.
But the truth is, we are intended, by nature, to eat meat and its not healthy to just eat tofu and imitation meats and vegetables all the time. Its human nature. It's not like you said you don't care about the treatment of the animals during processing, you do. But I don't think your eating meat is wrong. You can choose to eat organic meat, as you have been, which comes from animals that have not gone through the torture and danger that a lot of factories put them through.
So do not feel guilty, and eat what you love, you only live once!
I think that you have to understand that if you were raised as a meat eater, you have memories connected to it. Comforting memories. It makes sense to want to go back there sometimes. There is no way you should feel guilty...this is your path alone. You will either continue to eat it or not, but stop wasting energy feeling guilty.
Where is your guilt coming from? It's interesting, you know, like when an obese person eats too much they feel that guilt too...I think that caring that guilt with you, you think about it more and it just adds fuel to the fire.
Eat it or don't, you sound like you're bright and aware, examine what you really want and do it :)
Keep on rocking in the real world!
I think if you're keeping your meat consumption very low you're still going to be in better health, and you're less involved with animal suffering than most non-vegans. You're still rather conscious.
To answer your second question, "has this ever happened to anyone," I haven't had meat since 1996, and still don't want any. I remember my very last bite of meat:
I was in HS and my boyfriend was worried and wanted me to eat one of his chicken nuggets. This was about 5 months after I'd quit eating meat, but before I called myself a vegetarian. I remember biting down on a piece of ligament or tendon....something chewy from the bird body. It was gross, and I found it extremely difficult to swallow. I felt more sure than ever that it wasn't food for me. It was a personal choice. I didn't ask my boyfriend to stop eating meat, and he supported my vegetarianism after that. To the best of my knowledge, I haven't eaten meat since. I've been vegan for about 9 years off/on.
I think guilt is a natural response since you felt secure in your veganism in the past. I had a roommate who was vegan for 8 years, and then started eating fish. He remains a pescatarian. He used to open his sardines, and look at me guiltily, but I had no judgement of him. :-) He was vegan for health reasons from the start, rather than for the animals.
Guilt and self-punishment are harmful to oneself. Your choices are either to enjoy life and realize we are human, and make mistakes. Forgive yourself. You can stop eating the beef if you feel unable to get past the self-punishment. It's really important to feel good about your choices. Maybe make a list of pros and cons of the slight addition of beef to your diet, or a list of pros and cons of your life as a vegan, and see if you learn anything from that.
Don't beat yourself up, no matter what!!!
Just eat what you want. You have a free will. In fact you should eat a combination of meat and vegetables. Don't feel guilty.
It's, entirely, up to you hun. Whether or not you want to be a vegan, vegetarian or omnivore. =)
You just decided to become an omnivore again. *shrug*
Eat whatever you want just don't call yourself a vegan anymore if you eat meat! The way I look at it is you undid all your veganism by going back to eat meat! In other words your past effort of veganism is wasted if you're back to being a meat eater! Just be mad at yourself nothing to be guilty about!
I have heard of people doing this. It's all a question of your values. Do you feel strongly enough about being vegetarian to give up a food that you like the taste of?
A lot of times, if you try to do too much too fast, you will eventually break down. That is why you should become vegetarian for a while before going vegan. Some people eliminate red meat first, then other meats one by one.
If you know what you're supporting by eating meat and still doing it, you SHOULD feel guilty. After seeing the way animals are treated in slaughterhouses it really shouldn't be hard to go vegan and STAY vegan. If you're so fond of the taste of meat, go ahead and eat it but don't you dare call yourself vegan. If you eat ANY kind of meat, you're a sick **** and NOT vegan. It doesn't matter if they claim to be organic or not, the animals are still treated very badly and it's still bad for your health and the environment. What I'm trying to say is, go veg and stay veg. If you can't do that, go ahead and feel guilty, you deserve it. D;
