Yes, tofu can go bad. It will smell really sour.

You can deep fry tofu and stir fry tofu. Or you can pan fry tofu then stir fry it! You can also buy the tofu already fried. There's silky tofu for soup too. You can stuff it in dumplings. The best thing about tofu is that it soaks up whatever flavor you cook it in.

There are many many options.

I like it in stir fry.

chopped Bell pepper, chopped sweet onion, minced garlic, and either diced firm or fried tofu.

Sauce: equal parts fish sauce, oyster sauce, and dark soy sauce.

Mix the sauce and set it aside.

In a pan, or wok, over medium high heat. put some veg oil and sautee the garlic. When fragrant, add the veggies and toss for a minute or two. Add the sauce and tofu. Cook until veggies are tender. Salt, sugar, and/or pepper to taste. That's all!

Eat with rice.

For a change in flavour, add fresh slivers or shredded of ginger when you add the veggies and a bit of rice vineager to the sauce. yum yum yum

A friend of mine once made some into a sort of scrambled egg look alike dish.
She fried up some green onions and then sort of mashed up the tofu into it till it was hot. It tasted good.

(By the way it does expire. Lol.)

I hope this helped!! (:

Here's a very simple tofu scramble recipe that I like:

http://www.chooseveg.com/display_recipe....

It does expire. Vacuum-sealed tofu lasts a long time unopened though. (The package I bought this week is good until August 08).

anything you like. Great thing about tofu it goes with everything. It will absorb and take on the flavors of whatever you are cooking. (like garlic, chili, ginger)

It does expire.
You can:
--broil it
--chop it into 1" pieces and stir fry or sautee it.
--scramble it like scrambled eggs
--put any kind of sauce on it, when cooked
--it is best to 'press' tofu before cooking or eating it- put it in a colander and set a heavy pot on top, and let the water drain out over several minutes. This is done with firm or extra firm tofu.

Unless it is non-GMO tofu, I would chuck it in the bin....MOST tofu and all other soy products in the US and UK have been genetically modified with all sorts of weird stuff, and is no longer a natural food. Google "roundup ready soy": for starters, then if you have the stomach for it-go from their. Soy has been spliced with the DNA of all sorts of strange things-it is the leading cause of adult onset food allergies. I avoid soy in all forms. Portabello mushromms make a better substitute "meat" than soy, in my opinion

The other commenter is right about many tofu brands not being all that natural, but there are still several "NON-GMO" brands around.
Tofu in its water and original packaging can keep in the fridge as long as the date says. Once you take it out of the package, it will start to turn sour within a few days. I usually buy two blocks. One i use half of within a few days, and I portion out the rest and actually freeze it (without the water). To thaw, i just pop it in the microwave on defrost setting for a couple of minutes.
Also you might want to check out the "Shelf-stable" non-refrigerated tofu. Keep in mind once you open it, you must keep it in the fridge and use it/freeze it within a few days.
