I just started to be a vegan, I need tips for eating out?!

Question: Ok well I am 15 years old and I just started being a vegan
I have found all of these awesome alternatives and am doing great at home, but I just went out to lunch and there was nothing to get. Like there was one salad choice and I was allergic to most of the stuff in the salad
So I had to get a soup, but it had milk in it

So does anyone have any tips for me on eating out?

Eating out can be tough. I recommend doing a Google search for vegetarian dining, there are several sites that list what local restaurants offer vegan options. When you eat out with family, ask them to take you somewhere that will have something you can eat. Don't be afraid to ask questions of the waiter or waitress, and if you feel they aren't being sincere or not looking into the options fully, don't be afraid to ask for the manager. Managers are often some of the most helpful people for vegans, and they will usually have something made special for you. Olive Garden has vegan options (portabella mushroom ravioli, minestrone soup, salad with oil & vinegar [with no crutons or italian dressing], breadsticks made without butter [just ask], most of their pastas with plain marinara). Also check out your local indian & chinese restaurants - indian food is often vegan and most indians know the term vegan very well, and many chinese restaurants can substitute "mock meats" made of soy for their meat dishes. It's really not so hard, it just takes time to get to know your local restauarants!

Learn how to modify foods. Just because something comes with cheese/meat/egg doesn't mean it HAS to.

You can ask for no cheese/meat/egg. Get fried rice without egg. Get pasta without cheese. Get salads without cheese/meat/egg. Get an oil & vinegar dressing. Get french fries. Get chicken wraps minus chicken. Go to places that have veggie burgers (Ruby Tuesday's is vegan.) Go to places that have salad bars and make a huge salad. Baco's are vegan.
Go to ethnic restaurants. I personally dont' like indian food (yeah, that's right, *gasp* I said it. I dont like curry!) but I love middle eastern falafels and hummus and pita and all that good stuff.
You can sub beans for meat at taco bell. If you get something "Fresco style" they take off the cheese, sour cream, and fatty sauces. Unfortunately that means they take off the guacamole if it comes on it, which is vegan. Try a bean burrito, fresco style, add guacamole. Or a 7 layer burrito minus cheese & sour cream.
Arby's fries are vegan. Their turnovers are vegan.
If you get mexican food, get nachos minus meat/cheese/sour cream. Instead, eat them with beans, jalapenos, black olives, salsa, and guacamole.

You'll learn as you go that it's not hard at all.

eta: Oh man, i can't believe I forgot sushi. *drool* Avocado and/or cucumber rolls with extra wasabi FTW! (btw, "sushi" doesn't mean raw fish. It means vinegared rice.)

^-- you cant drink milk if you're a vegan so no you dont get best answerr haha

Im having the same problem but maybe you should just anylze everything and see what you can eat and what you like.

Papa John's pizza w/out the cheese is vegan, just add veggies

Subway Italian and Wheat bread is vegan, and all their pickles veggies are too

Cici's can special make vegan pizza

Chinese resturants usually serve some kind of vegan option (spicy been curd, tofu and steamed veggies)

Taco bell if you don't put cheese and meat on it

First, you'll have to learn to live with that... welcome to the club.
You don't say where you live... that's important to help you... I live in Toronto - Canada, one of the most vegan friendly places in the world... so here a tip would be go to Kensinton market neighbordhood... its a wonderful neighborhood in downtown with many places to eat vegan, meet vegans, shop proucts, events, etc....
Here there's also a vegetarian association with a very good website where you can see the directory of restaurants in all neighborhoods
- call before you go.... ask them if they have vegan options.
- japanese teriyaki is mostly vegan, some use honey for the sauce so ask first.
- japanese Teppanyaki. It is a type of cooking where the chef prepares the cook in front o you in a grill... he'll ask ahead if you're vegetarian and cook your food first (to avoid contaminating you food with meat grease in the grill).
- go to place where food is cooked in front of you, you can direct the chef.
- well... you know... thai, ethipian, indian, etc...
- starbucks and other have soy milk, ask them for your coffees(you can't eat their other products but at least you can accept invitations to coffee)
- sushi... most place offer vegan sushi dishes
- search your locality for a really nice and tasty vegan restaurant and take your non vegan friends once... they'll love it for future meetings.
- get some vegan friends
- Research for vegan groups, associations and events in your locality
- BYOF. bring your own food...
- Before going on a date, let the other party know that you can't eat certain things... but tha desn't mean you can't go out and be his dream girl..

milk- you can drink

anyways, most steak houses have baked potatos and there good. also look at everything on the menu. including appetizers. resturaunts here almost always hava stuffed mushrooms for appetizers ond there just GREAT. Also try salmon, vegans can eat fish.

usually at every resturaunt youll come across theres either bread or chips as sortof a free aptizer.

good luck!
