Sugar and honey....are they ok if I'm vegetarian?!

Question: Honey is typically considered vegetarian, but not vegan. Sugar is considered vegetarian by most, but certain kinds of sugar aren't vegan. Whitened sugars are made white by filtering them through ground animal bones, and naturally traces of those animal bones end up in white sugar. I personally would recommend cane sugar, it's nice & healthy and 100% vegetarian and vegan.

Didn't know that they were animals.

Sugar either comes from sugar beets or sugar cane. I don't see why they wouldn't be ok for a vegetarian diet since sugar is basically a plant product.
Honey is made by bees so I guess whether or not you feel right eating it depends on how strict a vegetarian you are and whether or not you feel bees are exploited by the honey making process.

Honey is fine but some sugars aren't because of the use of animal products derived from slaughter, in their manufacturing.

Yes, that is fine.
Vegans do not eat honey...but they eat sugar.

I hope this helps!!! =]

Sugar's ok. If you're vegan honey would be a no-no then, but if you're just a vegetarian then honey should be ok as well.

If you're okay with them, they're okay. If you're not, then they aren't.

They don't make you NOT vegetarian, though.

Vegetarians can eat honey and sugar. Vegans can't eat honey.

Yes you can have sugar and honey if you are vegetarian

yes

100%. No harm in the making of those!

However, if you were to be a vegan (meaning no dairy, animal products, eggs...) honey would not be OK, seeing as it comes from bees...

Those poor bees may not killed in mass but are ROBBED of their food and the fruit of their labor.......yet it is OK for someone avoid meat due to cruelty to animals and it's hurt BEES.... Sounds odd

Yes. If you were a vegan, it would be a different matter.

yep perfectly fine as long as your only vegeterian not vegan (cus some vegans don't eat honey cus it comes from an animal)

honey...

Honey is ok for you to eat, but most of the white refined sugar you see in the stores has been filtered though bone char so it is not acceptable. Whole Foods/Wild Oats sell vegan sugar or you can use other sweeteners like raw sugar, stevia, etc....
Thirsty? Drink me finally got it right and then he gets thumbs down for his efforts!

yes of course its ok. definatly sugar. but if you were a vegan, you wouldnt be allowed to eat honey. Honestly i think people should know what they can and cant eat if they want to become a vegan or vegetarian. :) good luck. xox
