I am making corn bread and I don't have any baking power. Is there anything I can substitute with?!

Question: If you have self-rising corn meal you don't need baking powder.

Answers: If you have self-rising corn meal you don't need baking powder.

Per 1 teaspoon baking powder- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda plus 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar OR 1/4 teaspoon baking soda plus 1/2 cup buttermilk (decrease liquid in recipe by 1/2 cup)

I don't use baking powder when I make it. Most corn meals are self rising and so baking powder isn't required. If you don't have self rising corn meal you can substitute it with baking soda. Baking soda is 4 times as stong as baking powder, so if your recipe calls for 1 teaspoon of baking soda, you would need four teaspoons of baking powder to produce the same amount of lift.
