Help on vegetarian foods that don’t involve soy stuff…?!

Question: Hi all, so I’m deciding on becoming a vegetarian for ethical reasons (but I’m not deciding to/don’t see a reason to go vegan, don’t debate me on this, just read on). so I was just in the process now of exploring the “fake meat” foods like soy burgers, soy hot dogs, honestly, they taste bland and I dunno if it’s gonna work with me (ya, im kinda a picky eater to begin w/). Is this whole vegetarian thing gonna work? Are there any vegetarians that don’t like soy stuff either but eat other stuff? I’m just trying to explore normal foods that don’t have meat, the list below is what I could think of, what am I missing? can you help add to this list?

Breakfast:
Eggs, hash browns, waffles, pancakes, cereal

american
soups, salads, mac/cheese, most pastries, fruits

Italian:
Cheese pizza, spaghetti, lasagna, pasta w/o meat

Chinese
Chow mein w/o meat, fried rice

Mexican
Cheese enchiladas, cheese quesadillas, Spanish rice

Can anyone help add to this list of stuff a vegetarian can eat? thanks

There are literally thousands of recipes out there good luck

un-spiced soy products are just like regular meat or poultry in that they taste bland unless you season or marinate them. Though, a large variety of soy products out there come pre-seasoned.

My advice would be to allow your self to explore different alternatives and experiment with spices or look up vegetarian recipes and find out what you like and don't like. It may take time for you to adapt some tastes for the different soy or tofu alternatives out there, but they aren't for everyone.

If you are wanting to stay away from soy altogether though, it is still possible to maintain a healthy diet, you just need to make sure you are getting all of your protein so make sure you are eating healthy amounts of cheese, eggs, and beans to keep your protein levels high.

Also grains are incredibly filling. I love medium and short grained rice. Falafel is also a very good meat alternative!

Cottage cheese(low fat) and lite string cheese are great protein sources when you need something quick and easy. Be careful with all the items you listed above that include cheese, because if you eat a bunch of fatty cheese, you might as well be eating a steak(fat wise). Look for low-fat and non-fat dairy products, they have the same amount of protein and nutrients.

I noticed you don't have many vegetables or fruit listed on there. Spinach (I like the frozen kind) has protein and iron in it. I think one of the main reasons that a vegetarian lifestyle is so healthy is because we end up eating so many more fruits and veggies than your average meat eater.

I hate soy products, too, so I like to make veggie burger patties out of black beans with a whole wheat bun. (There are recipes online.)

Also- try switching to whole wheat breads, pastas, etc. because they usually have more protein and fiber. MMMMMM......mmmmm...GOOD!

I never used to like soy. You really gotta just try lotsa brands untill u find one you like. If not thats fine, ur choice.

I used to be veg but now vegan. I used to make a Faken-n-egg-McMuffin.

toasted english muffin
fake bacon
slice of cheese
1 egg (free range)
salt n pepper

Tastes just like a bacon n egg mcmuffin from McDonald's only betta.

If u really hate soy.

try a falafel, hummus, salad, roll on leb bread.

Yummmm ;)

Explore the world of beans-there are so many different ways to prepare them in any cuisine style you can think of. Low fat dairy is also a great option for protein.

What I note missing in your list are vegetables. Yeah, just plain veggies simply prepared. It may take time, but you will come to crave the taste!
