How long does fake meat keep in the fridge?!

Question: after you've opened the package?

Answers: after you've opened the package?

2 to 5 days once the package is opened.

Most of the fake meat products I've bought say in fine print on them "use within 2 to 5 days after opening". That includes Tofurky deli slices, veggie dogs, vegan ground sausage substitute, packaged seitan mock-meat, etc. Only one or two haven't had that written on them.

I think that the brief period that it can be utilized is not due to it spoiling necessarily but because it can lose it's freshness and its quality. I can't vouch what happens if you wait more than 5 days after it's opened and eat that stuff though, I always followed manufacturer guidelines about when to enjoy the product...

You'll likely have to be a bit more specific on what type of fake meat. Tofus and seitans should be kept submerged in water, and if you keep it more than a day be sure to change the water daily. That'll keep about a week. A fake veggie burger or fake chicken nuggets will keep a few days, but if you think you'll not want to eat those for a while it's better to put them in a freezer-safe container and freeze them. Tofu and seitan can both be frozen as well, but the texture will change a bit.

Not long around you brotha! ;-)

In my experience, not past the expiration date, and when kept in it's original package and closed up as much as possible in that, and then also put into a sealable sandwich baggie, it'll stay a while...like a week. But you can usually tell if it's going bad, because it's gets hard, and then you know it's probably not good to eat...

My husband will eat them up to a week (and probably sometimes longer) and he has never gotten sick. They can last 3 months unopened, so they wont spoil quickly.
