Hi.
I am a vegetarian and my mom is too (my dad and brother arent). I agree with you, what the factory farms do to the animals is terrible! These are some good foods to eat:
~veggies (in things..like pasta, put in the ones YOU like..then go from there)
~ fruits
~ pasta
~ meat substitutes------you can find them in the freezer section in the grocery store. The companies are Boca, Morning Star Farms, Gardenburger, and Quorn. I like the meat substitutes..they are good.
~ tofu ---- only if you want..i don't eat it very often
~ pizza
~ ethnic foods [chinese, thai, indian, italian]
I think that is good. Some good cookbooks you might want are (if you want more recipes):
~ Vegetarian 5 ingredients or less cookbook [ i don't have this one but it sounds good] ---- i found it on www.amazon.com
~ Kids can cook Vegetarian recipes
-----------
I think that should cover it all. If you need any other cookbooks type, "vegetarian cookbooks" on amazon.com.
Sorry if this is REALLY long!!!!!!!!!!!!
=]
Thanx for going vegetarian!!! =]
Don't wear leather either.
I know how you feel, i watched meet your meat like a week ago and i cant even think of eating meat anymore. its so cruel what they do to those poor animals!! anyways there are many things you can eat. there are "fake" meats that are pretty tasty!! like soy meat, or (my favorite) gluten meat. gluten is derived from flour, its a powder that you soak in water and it turn to like dough only tougher and you cook it and add stuff you would normally add to meat, like spices, salt, tomato sauce, and lemon juice. its really good. also you can eat all kinds of bread, fruits, and so on. good luck with new lifestyle :)
Buy quorn or any other products tht are meat free and just make ordinary meals with them ??
Just make sure you research your vitamins and watch your calorie intake. Ask your parents to get you some multi-vitamins since you don't eat enough vegetables.
When you choose your "fake meats" try to find one that are made out of beans and veggies rather than starchy foods. That way you can have your vegetables without thinking about it.
You are "able" to have anything you want. There's more to veganism than just not eating dairy.
Not all vegetarians eat dairy or eggs.
Vegetarian is a blanket term. It covers the 5 levels.NO vegetarians eat meat. Fish and chicken are meat.
Lacto vegetarians - milk, no eggs.
Ovo vegetarians - eggs, no milk.
Lacto-ovo vegetarians - eggs and milk
Strict vegetarians - strictly plant based diet. Some call it a vegan DIET (which is NOT the same as being vegan) No animal products. No dairy, no eggs, no honey, nothing animal-derived.
Vegans - plant-based diet (as above). Vegan implies moral concern for animals and extends to lifestyles as well. We avoid animal products in our consumables such as shampoo, make up, cleaning products, and so on. No leather, wool, suede, silk, and so on, and we avoid animal testing. We don't support traditional zoos, circuses, & aquariums, nor bull fighting, dog/horse racing, and so on.
If you say you wont' be a healthy vegetarian because you dont' eat veggies, that means you're an unhealthy omnivore since you should be eating them already.

Get familiar with the meat substitutes out there. Veggie burgers, soy hot dogs, mock deli slices, fake breakfast meats... there is no end to what they can do these days! Vegetables are important. Perhaps you enjoy soup or stew with vegetables? You don't have to eat raw veggies. Try Indian food; it incorporates lots of great vegetables like potatoes, peas, spinach, lentils and more which are all healthy and taste fantastic. Chinese, Japanese, and mediterranean foods are also great ways to go! For more information, read "Skinny B*tch," it is the ultimate how-to-go-veg book and is well-researched.
its called the food chain
God put animals on the planet for humans to eat
There are many vegetarians who don't eat vegetables--it's not the healthiest diet, but you can get by. You should try to eat the following things:
-beans and lentils
-whole grains
-low fat dairy products
-eggs or egg whites
-fruits (fresh or dried)
-nuts (in moderation)
-enriched beverages such as soy milk or rice milk
-tofu and other high-protein meat substitutes
Rice and beans combined can give a "complete" protein, as can soy. You'll need lots of protein from soy, eggs, dairy, and legumes if you intend to never eat meat again. And since you can't live on peanut butter sandwiches and trail mix, you should probably get a vegetarian cookbook.
Well if you go vegetarian, you are going to HAVE to eat vegetables. However, there are some veggies out there that people tend to find more palitable than others.
To go vegetarian you should be VERY careful about a few things. You parents are right to have some concerns if you are under 25. Your body is still developing (The human brain doesnt finish growing and doing what it needs to do until about 25, bones about 22, many organs are the same)
The fact is, despite the cruelty we inflict on animals, we are designed to eat them. Your body needs things from animals, so you are going to have to be careful to replace them. Thats why your teeth are shaped the way they are, to be able to chew up everything from seeds to meat.
Firstly-
TAKE A MULTIVITAMIN! You should talk to a pharmacist or a doctor about what the best multivitamin is for you. Depending on your age they may have certain ideas about what is best for you. This is SO important. Generally, even non veggies should be doing this.
Next- Iron/Protein
Veggies have to work tremendously hard to get iron and protein in their diet. You HAVE to have these things to live, so you need to make sure you get them. Protein is what you use to build muscle, make hair, have fingernails, and skin. Its so important, and the major source of it for most people is lean meats. As a veggie, you will need to get this from beans, nuts, and legumes and if you are willing, eggs and dairy. Iron is necessary for blood to carry oxygen around your body. If you dont want anemia (And trust me, you dont) then you need to be getting your iron. Since this is almost entirely from meat, you will have to work super hard to get this one. One of the best sources of iron is dark leafy things, like spinach. Get over it and eat it.
Things you can try to help you down the foods-
Tofu- the veggies friend, tofu provides plenty of protein and tastes like whatever you cook it with or whatever sauce you put on it. Fried, cold, hot, in soups, in salads, tofu is good for you and can be very tasty
Ranch dressing! - or any dressing you like. Try for a lowfat variety and dunk fresh, raw veggies in this. You should be eating plenty of raw veggies even as a non veggie, but this is pretty important. Fried veggies lose alot of nutrients, so give them a dip in dressing and it can help.
mustards, lemon juice, and spices- try to find a spice you like and use it to cook veggies you dont like. tll help. lemon juice spritzed over veggies can help. mustards are lowfat, healthy, and have a very strong taste so that can help as well
Peanut butter- as a veggie this is an important food for you. You could also use any nut like almonds, but peanut butter is readily available, tasty, and very healthy.
Beans- mexican food could easily be your new best friend. vegetarian refried or blank beans wrapped up with lettuce, tomatoes, avocadoas, et cetera, all in a taco shell, over rice, or as a buritto. This is healthy, have lots of good for you things in it, and is going to cover the taste of things you dont like.
As a veggie you are going to need to do some research and talk to your parents (I assume they are helping feed you) about what your nutritional needs are. Commit to working together, and research on websites for veggies (peta.org, or just google the word vegetarian) can help a lot
good luck, its a healthy choice to be a veggie,
but ONLY if you do it RIGHT
