I decided to go vegan and now what do I do with all my make-up and nail polish that is animal tested?!

Question: So I decided to go vegan because I am against animal cruelty and it is so much healthier for me as well. I have tons of make-up and nail polish that I want to get rid of but I really don't want to just toss it in the trash because I spent lots of money on it all and I don't want to be wasteful. On the other hand I don't want to promote the use of these animal tested products either. Hmmm...what to do, what to do.....

This is definitely a tough one. Nail polish is something that must go - face it. It's packed with harmful chemicals and many contain the same stuff they use to embalm dead bodies, yuck! I would recommend contacting www.treehugger.com about how to safely dispose of those without adding to pollution in landfills. As for the other stuff, some of it might be vegan like mineral eye liners. These, though the company tests on animals, would be better off being used than thrown out, so either use them up and then make the switch or find a friend who would like some cheap or free make-up. Lipsticks are almost always not vegan - red, pink and orange tone ones often contain carmine, which is derived from crushed beetles. So you'll want to dispose of this safely or give them to a non-vegan friend. If you have any new make-up, see if you can either return it, give it as a gift, sell it on eBay (depending on if it has any value), or give it to a friend. I just want to say props to you for going vegan and making a wise and caring choice!!!

If it is unopened, donate it to your local women's shelter.

It's not made out of animals, so why not just use it. It's too late to stop the tests that were made before, so let it go.

throw it away! even as a non-vegan, i don't purchase products tested on animals at all. its just mean.

It doesn't seem like you have many options. The best would to be perhaps giving them to your friends, but make sure to mention why you're giving them up, so they know they were tested on animals. Otherwise, it doesn't seem like you can really do anything other than throw them away.

Good luck with going vegan, it's a very honorable life choice~

use it up, and then buy non animal test follow up products

Well if you just throw it in the trash, you aren't being very environment-conscious, if that matters to you. You can "recycle it" by giving it to a friend or sister, donate it (if unopened) as suggested previously, or simply use it until it is gone, and then as you run out, replace it with vegan products. It is very hard to find a product that is 100% vegan because probably one of the ingredients, somewhere along the lines, was tested by animals.

i agree to donate it all. some people arent as fortunate, animal tested or not....

I would say use it up but don't buy any more. The animals aren't going to be saved if you throw it away.

give it to friends, tell them why you are giving it to them. and buy vegan friendly stuff. -

Use it and when it's gone buy different products. If you don't want to do that, give unopened items to friends.

Use it until it's finished and then don't buy any more. If you give it to someone else and they like it, you are promoting the products and they may well go and buy them again when they run out. If you don't want to use them just throw them out. It's a small sacrifice.

I agree with nickels & camera.... use up what ya already have - do NOT buy more!! Read all of the labels & you can re-check what's actually IN each one you have.. a learning experience*!!!!!!!!!!!

Use up already opened products or toss. PLEASE don't give them to friends. You may not have dieases but it's still a great way to pass germs and would you really want someone elses used lipstick for example? Donate or give unopened products to charity or friends.

Just use it until you run out, and then replace it with vegan products. The only non vegan makeup I have contains beeswax, but it was not tested on animals, but I still use it even though I am vegan. I still wear my old leather products that I purchased when I was an omnivore, but I don't buy any new leather stuff.

Finish it, give it away, or throw it away. It's up to you.

Don't become vegan and deprive yourself of some tastey vittles like venison, veal, beef, chicken..................

Otherwise - just throw all that stuff out.
