Vegetarians please help??!

Question: I am SLOWLY switching over to a more vegetarian based diet. I noticed on the food pyramid it says to eat

"2-3 servings from the legume, nut seed, & meat alternative group"

What are some things to eat from this catagory....the only things I can think of are kidney beans, and peanut butter?

Legumes: Any and all kinds of beans: black beans, pinto beans, navy beans, kidney beans, cannelini beans, etc. Just look for canned or dried kidney beans and there will be a whole plethora of beans right next to them. Lentils, soybeans and soy-based foods, chickpeas aka garbanzo beans, peanuts and peas all fit the bill, too.

Nuts: Almonds, cashews, brazil nuts, pecans, hazelnuts, etc. Also, you can buy nut butters made from many of these.

Seeds: Sesame seeds, flax seeds, millet (maybe that's a grain?)

Meat alternatives: tofu, tempeh, tvp, seitan aka wheat meat

Soy anything, tofu, chickpeas, black beans - heck, any kind of bean - cashews, peanuts, pistachios - any kind of nut - and tempeh, just to name a few.

Beans (so many types), lentils, and peas are all great for this. Substitutes like Quorn and tofu also count. Any nuts like walnuts, almonds, cachews and brazil nuts are also great.

i agree with previous answers but if you want some pre-made products that are easy to buy at the store, try

Boca brand products found in the freezer section of the store, they make meat alternative burgers, sausage and lots of premade stuff like lasagna...

Hummus is also great, its made of chickpeas and you can find that in the refrigerator section in the deli area...Athenos is a great brand and it comes in many flavors

Garbanzo beans.
Black beans
Pinto peans.

Tofu.
Seitan.
Tempeh.

Peanuts.
Cashews.
Almonds.
