I would like to pose a queston to any vegan do you eat bread or drink alcohol?!

Question: Okay, I think a lot of people have misunderstood where you're trying to come from on this question. What you're trying to say is that Yeast is a living organism so would vegans "kill" it to eat. The fact is that yeast is not sentient - that is it does not think or feel or have a brain. Yeast is a naturally occuring and multiplying organism, much the same as funghi. If yeast was a creature, a thinking, feeling animal which was being exploited, then Vegans would avoid it.

It is "alive" simply because of how life is defined, but it is not a sentient being and vegans can eat/ drink it with a clear conscience knowing that no animal product has passed their lips.

My friend is vegan and eats certain breads and drinks wine.

There are vegan beers and wines that don't contain isinglass or gelatine. Or, you can just drink hard liquor - it's not clarified with animal products.

Plenty of breads are vegan. Vegans avoid eating animals, they don't avoid fungi like yeast. In fact, most vegans I've met eat plenty of mushrooms and the like.

You can buy vegan bread and vegan wine from most supermarkets.

See this link which has got some helpful info:

I am turning vegan, been veggie. - I make my own bread, I have done that, cause most commerical breads have so much HFCS! and I do not drink normal wine. i drink organic vegan wine! - way better!

But I get yor point, but see its not about prefection, its about what suits youas a person and how much you can decrease your contribution to cruelty in this world!

That may mean eating one veggie meal per month, or ebing a strict vegan, your karma, your medical bills!

I eat bread but its home made not shop bought as for alcohol i drink about 2 pints a year whats this concern us vegans, my bread is made from wholemeal and has for the beer i have a weak beer if i go to the pub

Yeast is classified as fungi by taxonomic scientists, so it's a living organism in the same way that a mushroom is. We do have to watch out for milk and eggs in bread, but it's pretty easy to find artisan and/or organic breads without either -- at least it is where I am. Baking bread at home is a possibility, too, and fun to boot :). As for alcohol, I personally do not partake, but for reasons unrelated to being vegan.

Yeast is a living organism, but so is a carrot. Vegans don't eat, use or wear anything of *animal* origin. Yeast do not belong to the animal kingdom and veganism says nothing whatsoever about yeast. Yeast do not have brains or nervous systems, they are not sentient beings.

Yeast doesnt feel pain at least i dont think so. Theyre like plants and stuff and thats the reason vegeterians stick to eating that stuff. I dont drink bc its poison and disgusting to what it does to ya!

Alcohol, no.

Bread, yes.

And there is vegan bread, I even make my own bread sometimes.

Yes and yes. Yeast is a fungus, not an animal. Vegan bread and beer are readily available.

Vegan people do not consume ***animal*** products.

Yeasts are not animals.

Why would you question the yeast but not the wheat that comes from a plant - a living thing?

Yes, I love cheese on toast and I like cider.
