I'm allergic to peanuts, but my trainer just customized my diet to use them as a snack...?!

Question: Is there a substitute for them? Where can I get it? My diet calls for almonds, peanuts and walnuts. I know I can eliminate them, but these days there is fake (soy or whatever) chicken, fish and everything else, so I figured I'd give it a shout to see what's out there.

Can you eat any type of nuts at all? If you can, maybe you can just substitute it for a different kind of nut...maybe just stick to the almonds and walnuts. Nuts are high in calories because they're full of fat but at the same time it is unsaturated fat which is not bad for you. Nuts are usually beneficial to your health. If your trainer wants you to eat nuts, it's probably for any monounsaturated fats it may have. You can also get monounsaturated fats in canola and olive oil (olive oil has higher amounts though). Remember you don't have to be really strict and exactly limit yourself to only what your trainer tells you to eat. You just have to use your common sense and an ocassional "guilty" snack is ok as long as you don't eat too much of it. Portion size/moderation, variety, and balance are what's important to eating healthy.

Why didn't you tell your trainer this at the time? Part of that is your trainer's fault anyway, before customizing a diet for you, he should have asked if you had any allergies. Just go back to your trainer and tell them about your problem and he will create a new one for you. There are soy nuts available, but I would still go back to my trainer.

Pretty much any nuts are good for you - good sources of oils and proteins - but if you are actually paying a trainer to provide you with a service then they should be looking out for such allergies and recommending alternatives themselves. Otherwise they're NOT doing their job and not taking care of your health.

did you bother to TELL your trainer about your allergies!?!? I assure you that he/she will give you some suggestions for substituting the nuts. jeez!

Soy nuts are your best bet as a peanut replacement. For a snack I'd say dried goji berries are good for energy or you can make and freeze date/fruit/nut balls. Also beans (baked is good)

Just skip the peanuts for now, and buy everything else and follow the diet until you get a chance to talk to him. That will be safest.
