To Vegetarians and serious people?!

Question: I've been a vegetarian for over a year because i am strongly against killing poor animals so people can eat them. I do not think it is right, but ive been thinking about starting to JUST eat fish. No other sea creation, or any other meat; Just fish. Is this bad? today at dinner my mother made fish and i took a bite and i started to cry. I want to eat fish because its healthy for you. Do fish remember being killed? i just think about how they had to die. Help me please!!!! Am i a bad person!?!??!?!

no your not a bad person.
and you need your protein just as much as fish need thiers.
i don't know if they remember being killed but if your really worried about it, eat animals that don't have brains (most seafood)
living and dying is part of the cycle of life, if somebody didn't eat fish, we'd have a fish infestation.

i hope you feel better. and don't loose any sleep over it tonight

you are not bad person, you just have to realize, what you need. your, human body needs certain amounts of proteins, carbs, vitamins, minerals etc. daily. if you completely cut part of your essentials to survive , away, then you will crave it. body is telling you that. you could not control your self by eating fish. so, get this together and stop crying.

I don't think that God would have made your body need things that only come from animals, if he thought you were a bad person for eating any animals. Fish is a pretty good choice. Jesus ate fish.. But that is not to say that fish aren't pretty amazing creatures worthy of life - it's just that perhaps their life sometimes includes a purpose of nourishing you, at the end of it? That is a journey you will have to discover.

That said, you have a unique calling as a very sensitive and life-affirming person. Remember, it is not anyone else's opinion of you that is going to relieve your guilt or that should cause you guilt. And, strangely enough, it is not really your own opinion of you that should control your life and get you upset - you need to look to a higher power, the One who created you, and get His opinion so that you are not controled by your own guilt or fears.

You have a unique role to play in the world, by virtue of your sensitivity given to you by God, in helping people consider how they affect other living creatures - so your role is, to find a way to protect and nurture your sensitivity for other living things, to impart that to others and to the living things you care about, in a way that still respects your own needs as a living creature who needs omega 3's and B vitamins and a low glycemic diet and so forth.... I know God can help you find that balance within yourself, because you were created to have that journey and that balance.... just look to Him and not yourself, and not other people, or your emotions won't be anchored and they'll spin pretty wildly controlling your life.

(A ship needs to anchor itself to something outside the ship or the anchor doesn't help it much. )

Frankly, I don't know what to make of you or your question. I am being honest here by saying you sound like you're in your early teens or even younger.

First, meat is the flesh of any animal. so eating fish means saying goodbye to the label "vegetarian".
Second, fish is healthy yes, but it is not the only healthy food you can eat. So if meat/fish eating for health is going against your "veggie code" then you can certainly avoid eating fish and still be healthy
Third, creatures who are dead are dead. They have no memory or consciousness. so I seriously doubt if the fish can remember how it was killed (and who killed them)
And finally, help you with what? Decide on what to eat? Sorry but that decision is for you and you alone to make. Are you a bad person? I don't think so. A bit naive maybe, but no evil or malice in you from what I can deduce.

PS Just go easy on the "animal friends" stuff because that makes you look and seem like a fanatic. Besides, a shark would be more than willing to eat his "friend", you. it it gets the chance. No tears, no regrets, no hesitation. I am not saying you should not feel compassionate, just slow down on the rhetoric.

It's pretty common for vegetarians to not eat only fruits and vegetables. Some have fish, dairy, or chicken as the exception. No animal really remembers being killed. If you feel bad eating fish, then don't eat it. Other sources of protein include soy based products (soy milk and tofu), and nuts. Pumpkin seeds also are high in protein. Alternate sources of omega 3 fatty acids (main reason to eat fish) are flax (found in mulitgrain breads) and fish oil supplements. You're not a bad person, and I apologize if this offends you, please don't be oversensitive. If you worry so much, you'll stress yourself out. Eat what you feel is right and cheer up.

edit: BEW, thanks for enlightening me. I didn't take abuse into consideration regards to milk.

Fish can feel pain and suffering and know how death feels, but they wouldn't have remembered death if they died.. fish may be "healthy" in some way, but they've been contaminated and just as unhealthy nowadays.

If you eat fish, then you're a pescatarian - but I'm not too fond of them because fish is still meat. It's almost like pescatarians imply fishes don't suffer or have feelings and I don't think it's even worth giving that person a title. It also seems kinda hypocritical.

jumphair; Response to your
"Do you abstain from drinking milk? That provides protein and doesn't come from a slaughtered animal."

Actually, after the cow is "useless", they're sent to slaughter. They long for their calves and are abused with computer machines milking them. The cow is also impregnated for several years, and suffer terribly from many diseases.

there is no one right answer. You have to do what is right for you. if it really bothers you that much then I think that the answer for you is not to eat them. Yes, it is part of the life cylce, but if you do choose to avoid that becuase of cruelty to animals then more power to you. I myself have been vegetarian for seven years and have found plenty of ways to supply my body with the proteins and omega 3 and 9s that most people get from meat and fish. The fact of the matter is, what is right for one person is not necessarily (or even usually) right the next person.

Human is only creature could contemplate before die, and contented for his deeds. Put you both palms on your heart and ask...what is right, what is wrong.

For modern animal agriculture, the less the consumer knows about what’s happening before the meat hits the plate, the better. If true, is this an ethical situation that make them work for us. Wear them, eat them-without any disquieting tinges of guilt or regret? SHOULD WE BE RELUCTANT TO LET PEOPLE AND KIDS KNOW WHAT REALLY GOES ON, BECAUSE WE'RE NOT REALLY PROUD OF IT AND CONCERNED THAT IT MIGHT TURN THEM TO VEGETARIANS?

If the public knew more about the way in which agricultural and animal production infringe on animal welfare, the outcry would be louder.

Nothing remembers being killed.

After something is killed, it's dead.

If you can't be vegetarian, eating fish is a good place to be until you move out.

This doesn't mean that fish don't suffer when they die.

No youre not a bad person, but you dont need to eat fish just because its healthy for you. I only went vegan because i finally learnt and experimented with myself that if i mainly eat raw but nutritious and mineral rich foods, it is the healthiest and simplest choice i could make being a health concerned person. I used to love fish, it did have a few health benefits for me while i was a meat eater, but i am alarmed to think of how much mercury i have built up over my lifetime of fish eating. Having never been vegan previously, the next time i saw fish, i didnt look at it the same way, it looked weird, and i then suddently understood why vegans use seemingly outlandish words like 'carcus' etc.

Of course you are NOT a bad person (you may be a TROLL, but you are not a bad person)

However..........remember..........

Chemical run-off from farms enters the waterways and will adversely affect fish.

Oil spills and general pollution floating around in the oceans, will cause fish to have very high mercury levels in them.

This is very dangerous for the general health of the population, pregnant women and can decimate the male sperm.

Enjoy your fish dinner............

I've been vegetarian for 3 years and became vegan almost a year ago and I really enjoy vegan food but I still have thoughts about starting to consuming non-vegan items... When I was first starting out, I went back and forth from being vegetarian to a non-vegetarian but still proclaimed myself as vegetarian. It isn't wrong for you to consume fish because it is your own decision what you think is right in your definition of vegetarianism. You just have to straighten out your reasons for being vegetarian and what you believe is acceptable. I don't think you should limit yourself because of guilt. It's unhealthier than clogged arteries. Don't feel bad, just try to work things out with your mentality and conscience.

Vegetarians don't eat fish.

But if you want to go back to eating meat, then eat fish.

And there are healthier alternatives than fish.

hi.
I was a vegetarian that ate fish last year! It is 100% fine. Fish is actually good for you. My mom is a vegetarian too and she eats fish and she was a vegetarian longer then I was! I gave it up in 2008 because I didn't want to eat it anymore. Luckily I take fish oil to keep me healthy. =] So I would say eat fish if you like the taste and you don't mind eating it.

Hope this helps!!! =]

If you are really into having a label, you can be vegetarian and still eat fish. For example the Japanese are a vegetarian culture and eat fish. In fact they have the healthiest diet and live the longest. There are other cultures that are vegetarian and eat fish.

"Strict" vegetarians are a small minority. Google "Flexitarian Diets" and you will find many websites to help you maintain a vegetarian lifestyle and still eat fish.

I am a flexitarian vegetarian and have been for years. I eat small amounts of fish and seafood 2-3x's per week. But 80% of my diet is plant-based.

You are not vegetarian if you eat fish--if you're going to, don't call yourself one.

Don't worry about it. I've been pescatarian for almost a year and its really not doing anything wrong.

Of course fish are animals, we'd be silly to deny that, but the thing is, you care about the issue and that's all that matters.

Fish are so good for you, unlike a lot of meat, and if you feel you need it in your diet then go for it.

You aren't a bad person.

There are non-animal sources for the nutrients you'd get from consuming fish.

"Do fish remember being killed?"---????

For your own knowledge (and those who aren't aware) "Meg" is a troll and nobody pays any attention to it. The flexis harass the vegers and are constantly encouraging them to eat meat and saying that vegetarians eat meat.
